Cocktail bar 28 Hong Kong Street emerged as top winner at the second Singapore Bar Awards over the weekend, scooping up top accolades for three of the eight award categories on offer, winning Best Bar Food 2015, Best Service Crew 2015, and Best Bar 2015.

The second Singapore Bar Awards, an affiliated event of the Singapore Cocktail Week, was established in 2014 by industry veteran Tron Young to recognise and celebrate the talents in Singapore’s bar scene. The Awards was expanded with new categories this year to reflect the quality and diversity of the industry, and nominees this year were selected through a tally of votes from 75 Singapore-based bartenders, spirits importers, journalists and influencers, culminating with the results being announced at the 8 March 2015 awards ceremony.

Anti:dote’s Tom Hogan (pictured above) – an addition to the local bartending scene just over a year ago – walked away with the Best Male Bartender 2015 title, while Nutmeg & Clove’s Bannie Kang came up tops for Best Female Bartender 2015, a title she also won in last year’s edition.

“The list of nominees we received for the Singapore Bar Awards 2015 was outstanding! I truly believe that being nominated by peers is one of the greatest honour and recognition that any passionate F&B individual can have,” says Singapore Bar Awards founder Tron Young.

“The panel of people who cast their votes for these awards are individuals within the bar industry whom I look up to and deeply respect for the work they’ve done to push the Singapore bar world to where it is today, locally and internationally,” shares Best Male Bartender 2015 winner Tom Hogan.

“If Singapore is listening, we, as bartenders, are here to tell the stories of our spirits and to educate. So next time there is a free seat at the bar, please take it. Just introduce yourself and we’ll take care of the rest.”

  1. […] One thing that hasn’t changed though is the creative brilliance of head craftsman Tom Hogan (main picture), who first joined Anti:Dote late 2013. His innovative twists to traditional classics has turned what could have been a boring hotel bar into one of the more lauded nightspots in town, even earning the accolades from his fellow peers when they accorded him the title of Best Male Bartender in this year’s Singapore Bar Awards. […] When bar industry veteran Tron Young first started the Singapore Bar Awards back in 2014 to recognise and celebrate the talents in Singapore’s burgeoning bar scene, he didn’t quite realise how big the event would grow in just a couple of years. Earlier this year in March, the second Singapore Bar Awards saw hundreds of industry folks – professional bartenders and mixologists, alcohol brand representatives, F&B owners, and the media – crammed into a packed The Refinery to witness the winners being announced.
