Best known for its portfolio of Muscadet from Sèvre-et-Maine in France’s Loire Valley, Singapore-based wine importer KOT Selections has landed its first wines from Bordeaux with the offerings from Château Corbin-Michotte
.

Château Corbin-Michotte is the crown jewel of the Boidron family, which has been involved in wine-making for eight generations and owns various vineyard properties on Bordeaux’s right bank. Château Corbin-Michotte, which sits near the boundary of St-Emilion and Pomerol, produces the classic Merlot-dominant, old-school St Emilion wines the area is best known for.

While KOT Selections have not fully confirmed the full Château Corbin-Michotte lineup that will be available in Singapore as yet, they are planning a wine dinner soon under its retail arm, Analogue Wine Merchant, featuring the following vintages:

  • 2010 Château Corbin-Michotte Grand Cru Classé
  • 2009 Château Corbin-Michotte Grand Cru Classé
  • 2001 Château Corbin-Michotte Grand Cru Classé
  • 1999 Château Corbin-Michotte Grand Cru Classé

It is hard to fault the 2010 Château Corbin-Michotte Grand Cru Classé, a classic Bordeaux right bank expression. More interesting though is the 2009 edition – a year’s difference giving it leather and wood smoke notes, as well as more rounded tannins.

The 2001 and 1999 vintages also bear looking out for – the former shows bright citric characters and a hint of farmyard funk, and replete with tighter tannins that shows its further aging potential, while the latter encompasses notes of wet forest and stewed black fruit with a teasing sensual and silkily smooth finish.

Getting into the Bordeaux game is certainly an interesting move for KOT Selections; while the market in Singapore for Muscadet is far smaller than for its Bordeaux brethren, there is also far less competition. It does help KOT Selections round out its portfolio of French wines – it already lists wines from Alsace, Loire, Champagne, Languedoc, Rhone and Beaujolais – though.

Next up, Bourgogne?
