Cordon Bleu is a long-standing household name. What Johnnie Walker Blue label does for whisky, the Cordon Bleu does for cognac. With the Martell Cordon Bleu Extra, the House of Martell pays tribute to its classic with a twist to a familiar tale.

Equal parts prestige and indulgence, the Cordon Bleu is perhaps the most emblematic among all of Martell’s expressions of its signature cognac. Even in the days before we were old enough to drink, we would have known the name: Cordon Bleu — something that is drunk only on the most special of occasions. Created in 1912 by Edouard Martell, the Cordon Bleu debuted in Monaco and went on to make its way around the world as an iconic ambassador for French elegance and Art de Vivre.

Martell attributes the familiar, and highly popular, ‘smoothness’ of Cordon Bleu to the use of rare, highly sought-after eaux-de-vie from the small Borderies cru, which represents a mere 5% of Cognac vineyards. With Cordon Bleu Extra, an “especially generous” portion of very old Borderies spirits — characterised by its intense candied fruit aromas — has been added to create a taste that is smooth and sensual, intense and harmonious. The bottle too has been subtly changed; it is now elegantly elongated and is closed with a wooden cap featuring a metal medallion engraved with the Martell seal.
