Bartending competition season is among us, and if you’re a member of the industry your peers are likely to be signing up – or already have signed up – to compete in some of them. And you should be doing the same too.

Here are four that you may want to keep an eye out for this month:

1. Diplomatico World Tournament 2017.

One of our favourite rum brands will be again hosting its global cocktail competition – for the 2017 edition Diplomatico is looking to select 8 bartenders from Singapore to compete in the Singapore Finals that will be taking place on the first day of the Singapore Cocktail Festival, Thursday 16 March 2017.

The Singapore winner will win a chance to fly to Venezuela to compete in the Continental Finals, and finalists from that stage get to compete in the Diplomatico World Finals in London. The ultimate winner – the Diplomatico’s World Best Bartender – will win USD10,000 in cash.

Interested participants are encouraged to submit their competing cocktail recipe online at http://www.diplomaticoworldtournament.com/. The deadline for submission is Monday 16 January 2017.

2. Diageo World Class Competition 2017.

One of the best things to have happened to bartenders, leading global spirits company Diageo’s cocktail competition set the trend and standard for cocktail competitions everywhere. For Diageo World Class Competition 2017, Diageo is encouraging Singapore-based bartenders to first watch the videos from its Global Finals before requesting for an entry form from its regional brand development manager Fabricio Marques at fabricio.marques@diageo.com.

Interested applicants are expected to include their recipes for the whisky challenge and the inspiration behind them in their applications. The deadline for submission is Friday 27 January 2017. Once your submission is sent, it will be reviewed and if selected a confirmation of entry to World Class Singapore will be sent over.

3. Roman Renaissance.

On a far smaller scale is Roman Renaissance, a cocktail competition organised by The Minute List and Martini that will take place on Thursday 26 January 2017. You can check their Facebook event page for more details.

Submissions for Roman Renaissance must be sent via email to RRCocktailComp2016@gmail.com by the submission deadline of Monday 16 January 2017 at 5pm.
