Exclusive importers of Douglas Laing whiskies Le Vigne announces special Singapore edition of Big Peat blended Islay whisky.

Whisky lovers may be familiar with Big Peat, Douglas Laing‘s popular gruff-looking and turtlenecked Islay ambassador who’s emblazoned across its whisky of the same name. Big Peat was the first of Douglas Laing’s “Remarkable Regional Malts” to be launched in 2009, and the whisky itself is a blended Islay malt, meaning it sees different single malt whiskies from Islay vatted together. The independent bottler – which is also behind the likes of The Epicurean, Timorous Beastie, Scallywag, Rock Oyster, as well as Old Particular, Provenance and Xtra Old Particular whiskies – reveals that it’s made with whiskies from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen distilleries, but is tight lipped about its exact composition.

Recently Big Peat got whisked off on a global tour to various cities around the world, spawning various special editions to commemorate each visit. Each special edition saw Big Peat dressed differently and posing in front of an iconic attraction – St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, the Tower Bridge in London, as well as at Munich’s Marienplatz in a lederhosen, no less. His second visit to Asia – after Taiwan – sees him land in Singapore, and this means Singapore gets its own special edition Big Peat too.

Big Peat Singapore Edition sees Big Peat dressed in a batik shirt – with a pattern that looks suspiciously like what French designer Pierre Balmain designed for the Singapore Girl – and posing in front of Marina Bay Sands. Like many of Big Peat’s special editions, the Singapore edition clocks in at a higher proof of 48% ABV compared to the original’s 46%. The composition of Islay whiskies in this blend is also slightly tweaked.

“Big Peat’s Singapore Edition is bottled in line with the Douglas Laing philosophy; proudly without colouring or chill-filtration, and at a high alcohol strength of 48%. Whilst Big Peat embodies the spirit of ‘his’ island home of Islay, this special bottling transports him and indeed the drinker to the beautiful and multifaceted island of Singapore,” shares Cara Laing, Douglas Laing & Co’s Director of Whisky.

The limited Big Peat Singapore Edition (70cl) is available at a recommended selling price of S$148 nett from the following retail outlets: Le Vigne, Hermitage, The MoombaVom Fass, and Meidi-Ya. Only 600 bottles of this have been produced.
