Inaugural beer awards competition, Asia Beer Championship, to debut in Singapore

The inaugural Asia Beer Championship will be held in Singapore this year in October to award quality beers coming out of the Greater Asia region.

A brand new beer awards programme is in town – to be held on 19 October 2018, the regional Asia Beer Championship looks to highlight and celebrate the strength and depth of the rapidly growing premium and craft beer industry in Asia. Organiser Evolve Beverages – the people behind SEA Brew and Singapore Craft Beer Week – hope that the new awards will provide a trusted quality benchmark for consumers as well as independent feedback to the regions’ brewers.

Asia Beer Championship will see a bevy of local and international judges go through entries in 20 different competition categories ranging the gamut of beers styles from delicate pilsners all the way to high octane barrel-aged beers. Judges -an experienced international panel of beer experts consisting of professional brewers and sensory experts – include John Wei of Brewlander, Hayman Tin from Archipelago Brewery, Youichi Kuichi of Japan’s Hitachino Nest, David Byrn from Vietnam’s Pasteur Street Brewing Co, Chen Hong of China’s Legend Beer, Jum Ryan from Australia’s Little Creatures, and more.

“We’re very excited to be launching this new awards programme for the region’s brewing industry. Asia’s brewers are now producing some outstanding beers and these awards will help promote them to the consumer. It is so important for the continual development of the region’s brewing industry for consumers to support their local breweries and be able to identify good beer,” says competition organizer Charles Guerrier of Evolve Beverages.

The top three beers in each category will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze accolades. A “Chairman’s Selection” accolade may be awarded to beers that miss out on the top awards in their category but are still deemed as excellent beers and achieve a certain standard.

The winners of the competition will be announced at an awards presentation at American Taproom on Saturday 20 October 2018 from 6-9pm. The presentation ceremony will be open to the public with some of the winning beers available for sampling from 6pm.

The competition is open to entries from breweries based in the Greater Asia region, stretching from Jordan all the way to Japan. Over 200 entries have been received for the competition to date; with the IPA and Hazy IPA categories most hotly contested.
