Wine importer and retailer Bottles & Bottles has signed on as exclusive distributor for Champagne Cattier, bringing in eight different Cattier champagnes to Singapore.

Champagne Cattier may be one of the smaller maisons among the 260-odd houses in the Champagne region, but the independent and still family-owned Champagne house regularly punches above its weight on the global scene where quality and style is concerned with its global distribution network across 45 markets. This month it added Singapore to that list, appointing Bottles & Bottles as its exclusive distributor in this market.

Cattier is located in the village of Chigny-les-Roses in Montagne de Reims just south of the city of Reims, and has been cultivating vineyards since 1625. But it was really only in 1916 that the family started to make its own wine – it was in the midst of World War I and, unable to send their grapes off to winemakers, the family decided to produce its own champagne in order to save the harvest. The first bottles of Cattier was released just in time to celebrate the end of the Great War.

Today Cattier is run by 13th-generation Alexandre Cattier, who serves as CEO at the head of the company that’s still independently-owned and run by the family with a staff of fewer than 20 people. Cattier’s location in the Montage de Reims means Cattier is mostly planted to Pinot Noir, although it does also consist of a touch of Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Its vineyards of some 33 hectares are mainly classified as Premier Crus; Cattier also owns one of Champagne’s rarest Clos, the Clos du Moulin (planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) that the family purchased in 1951. It also sources grapes from other small producers in the area.

The wines are produced by Alexandre Cattier and his father Jean-Jacques, both of whom are oenologists, and come in three categories – Cuvées Tradition, Cuvées Premier Cru, and Cuvées Prestige. Of particular interest to wine geeks are the exclusive expressions from its historic Clos Du Moulin parcel.

“We are proud to be Champagne Cattier’s distributor in Singapore and look forward to offering an extensive range of champagnes under its brand to local consumers,” said Koh Chin Liang, founder of Bottles & Bottles. “With the steady growth in champagne consumption in Singapore especially over the last five years, coupled with Singaporeans’ increasingly discerning palate for elegant wines, we are confident that many will be delighted by the premium quality of Champagne Cattier’s products.” Koh had reconnected with Alexandre Cattier at ProWein in Dusseldorf earlier this year, where they inked the deal to bring Champagne Cattier to Singapore.

“In Singapore, we are delighted to partner Bottles & Bottles who shares our commitment to quality,” shared Alexandre Cattier, CEO of Champagne Cattier. “We want to enhance our presence in Asia and are confident that our champagnes will be able to cater to the sophisticated Asian palate and provide an exquisite experience to all consumers on any occasion.”
