Southeast Asia’s largest premier whisky and spirits showcase, Whisky Live, returns on 9 and 10 November this year. Whisky Live 2019 will see more than 600 different whiskies and other spirits featured for its tenth anniversary.
Organised by French spirits house La Maison du Whisky, Whisky Live was first launched in Paris back in 2004, and the whisky and spirits showcase was first brought here in 2009 when Singapore’s whisky scene was still in its infancy. We’ve seen much of that change over the past decade, and today the appreciation of premium single malt whisky and other fine spirits here has grown tremendously, and a lot of that can be attributed to Whisky Live.
Whisky Live in Singapore has evolved to become a multi-faceted drinks extravaganza, in recent time introducing a cocktail component to its festival. This year revellers can expect to try some 600 whisky and spirit expressions from over 70 brands under a single roof over the two-day event.
Whisky Live 2019 at Andaz Singapore is split into different sections. There is the Tasting Hall and Spirits Room, and exhibitors this year include Kavalan Distillery (Taiwan), winner of World’s Best Single Malt and World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt in 2015 and 2016 at the World Whiskies Awards (WWA) respectively; Blanton’s Whiskey (US), winner of Single Cask of the Year in 2019 (Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible); Old Pulteney (Scotland, Highland), winner of World’s Best Single Malt in 2016 (WWA); independent bottler and distiller Gordon & MacPhail (Scotland); Nikka Whisky, multi-awarded Japanese whisky; and Teeling (Ireland), winner of World’s Best Single Malt in 2019 (WWA).
Other fine spirits include rum from Haiti’s Clairin, or gins by Kyrö Distillery Company, winner of World’s Best Gin (for Gin & Tonic) at the 2015 International Wine and Spirits Competition, as well as Ceylon Arrack.
Then there’s the Collector’s Room, featuring a collection of rare, sought-after bottles from La Maison du Whisky’s private collection amassed from over six decades, including untraceable bottles distilled in the 60s and 70s. Tasting drams here are available with token purchase.
The Masterclass Room and Cocktail Class Room will be where masterclasses take place. These paid sessions include the latest conversations in the world of whiskies and spirits through masterclasses led by industry experts, as well as cocktail classes to learn the history of cocktails and cocktail-making techniques from renowned drink makers.
Cocktail lovers will be enthralled by the Cocktail Terrace, where some of the region’s best bartenders and enjoy signature cocktails from their acclaimed bars. A total of four world-class bars will be showcased in rotational guest shifts of two bars every four hours.
Finally there’s La Boutique, a bottle shop pop-up by La Maison du Whisky, and a retail paradise where guests can purchase the range of products available from the Tasting Hall and Spirits Room.
“Whisky Live is the biggest, and only premium, spirit-centric showcase in Singapore; the 10-year milestone will see us renew our commitment to elevate the appreciation for whiskies and spirits by connecting the drinkers with the makers; and spotlighting people, product and passion in one celebratory weekend,” shares Mathieu Musnier, General Manager of La Maison du Whisky Singapore.
