Lotte Duty Free has taken over the liquor and tobacco concessionaire at Changi Airport from incumbent DFS as of today; Lotte at Changi Airport to be the largest among Lotte’s Asia Pacific operations.

Changi Airport today welcomed Lotte Duty Free as its key liquor and tobacco concessionaire at Singapore Changi Airport. The South Korean travel retailer takes over from Hong Kong-based DFS, which from the past 35 years has held that role.

DFS in August last year declined to participate in a tender by Changi Airport for its liquor and tobacco concessions that saw South Korea’s The Shilla Duty Free and Lotte Duty Free, as well as Germany’s Gebr Heinemaan, indicate their interest. The tender was finally won by Lotte, which was then slated to take over in the early part of June this year.

Lotte will first start to retail its offerings Changi Airport’s duty-free e-commerce platform, iShopChangi.com, while renovation works begin once circuit breaker restrictions are lifted. Renovation works for Lotte’s stores at Changi Airport will take place in phases, beginning with Terminals 1 and 3.

Lotte is looking to eventually offer over 3,000 tax- and duty-free wines and spirits as it expands its product portfolio. Airside travellers can look forward to a wide variety of wines and spirits brands, including products such as special and limited-edition whiskies and cognacs that will be exclusive to travel retail. A new section to look forward to will be a dedicated collection of Asian spirits highlighting brands from Singapore and Korea, as well as alcohol-free options to cater to a growing demand for non-alcoholic beverages.

Other in-store concepts planned include a specialised cognac brand boutique, immersive experience zones dedicated to whisky, gin and wines, and a high-tech tasting bar, among others.

“We are excited to welcome Lotte to the Changi family. The world of travel retail is constantly evolving, and with e-commerce growing exponentially in the current climate, we are positive that this new partnership will bring about a transformation to Changi’s core liquor and tobacco concession,” shared Lim Peck Hoon, CAG’s Executive Vice President, Commercial.

Apart from a complete revamp of store designs, passengers can also look forward to an omni-channel experience as we integrate a seamless brick-and-mortar shopping experience with e-commerce,” she added.

“The new operations at Changi Airport will be the largest among all of Lotte’s Asia Pacific operations,” declared Kap Lee, CEO of Lotte Duty Free. “We look forward to bringing new and exciting brands, activations and experiences to Changi’s shoppers. We are confident that this new relationship will bring us one step closer to our vision to be the ‘Global No.1 Travel Retailer, as we grow together with CAG and the brand partners at Changi.”

To celebrate the start of its operations, Lotte is offering a 7% discount on a curated range of products from 12 June to 30 June, in addition to tax- and duty-absorbed prices, as well as a 5% discount voucher for the next purchase in-store. Singapore residents can also shop selected Lotte’s products on iShopChangi without flying.
