Jigger & Pony launches premium bottled PONY Cocktails

Award-winning Singapore cocktail bar Jigger & Pony unveils its range of premium bottled PONY Cocktails that’s perfect for home tippling.

If there was one good thing that came out of the circuit breaker period for Singapore’s cocktail scene, it was that the enforced shutdown forced many cocktail bars to reassess and pivot their businesses. Some, for example, obtained food licences in order to provide food deliveries to generate revenue to tide through the difficult period.

Others, like award-winning Jigger & Pony – which earlier this year was named Best Bar In Asia by Asia’s 50 Best Bars, as well as landing the No.9 spot on the coveted World’s 50 Best Bars 2020 list – began prepping their cocktails for online deliveries. In the process, they discovered an enthusiastic audience clamouring for quality cocktails for drinking at home.

“We realised during the circuit breaker that consumers were not only buying cocktails for themselves, but also gifting them to reaffirm connections with people they care about,” says Indra Kantono, co-founder of Jigger & Pony Group. “The pandemic has shown us the importance of the relationship economy. In a time when everyone has been starved of a very human need for social interaction, it has reminded us that we yearn for richer interactions and how valuable relationships are during a time of crisis.”

And thus PONY Cocktails were conceived. What started out as a range of cocktails from Jigger & Pony Group’s various establishments – Jigger & Pony, Caffe Fernet, Gibson, and Humpback – conveniently packed in pouches for online deliveries during circuit breaker, pushed the group into vigorous R&D to create a quality range of bottled alcoholic libations that not only tasted great but were also shelf-stable and convenient to put together at home.

Here’re just a few examples of how much thought that has gone into this. The bartending team opted for a higher ABV for the bottled cocktails in order to minimise flavour dilution. House-made citrus essences are used in place of fresh citrus; the latter is heavily used in the making of cocktails, but are difficult to keep fresh. The use of the natural essences also eliminate the need for garnishes.

PONY Cocktails features two distinct lines. The Classic series showcases timeless classic cocktails such as the Negroni and the Old Fashioned. On the other hand, its Signature series offers more creative and innovative takes on cocktails that Jigger & Pony is known for. There’s the Sakura Martini, for example, which infuse real sakura flowers into the botanical notes of Roku Gin, along with Japanese sake vermouth, sakura leaf essence, and peach liqueur for a delicate yet punchy concoction.

Also in the Signature series is the Chocolate Boulevardier, which combines Suntory Chita Whisky with Cinzano Rosso and Campari for a strong, bittersweet aperitif. All PONY bottled cocktails come in either 200ml or 500ml bottles.

“Cocktail culture in Singapore has matured since Jigger & Pony first opened in 2012,” Kantono muses. “People here not only love and appreciate cocktails, but are open to try new things. Our mission is to help our guests find comfort, forge friendship and share happiness ─ whether physically at one of our bars, or at home with PONY.”
