For one night only, hotel cocktail bar Club 5 will host Sam Wong and Edwin Poh of Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall fame for a guest bartending shift on 28 April 2021 featuring a range of cocktails inspired by Singapore flavours.

Missed the OG hole-in-the-wall Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall at Boat Quay? You might like to know that Club 5 at PARKROYAL on Beach Road will be hosting Sam Wong and Edwin Poh, original founder and managing partner of Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall respectively, for a special one-night only guest bartending shift as part of its Guest Bartender Night sessions.

Sam Wong, now at Potong Pasir cafe Kizuna, and Matusalem rum brand ambassador Edwin Poh will both man the sticks on behind the bar at Club 5 on Wednesday 28 April 2021 alongside Club 5 head bartender Ong Jun Han who, interestingly enough, is also an Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall alumni.

Originally a dance club, Club 5 early this year revamped itself as a cocktail bar offering an elevated drinks programme featuring familiar local flavours as inspired by the Kampong Glam it’s located in. Those in the cocktail scene will know that Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall was a pioneering bar pushing out cocktails with local flavours as well, so you can expect the cocktails that Wong and Poh will be bringing to Club 5 to fit in very well with the bar’s creative direction.

Sam Wong's exclusive concoctions for the Club 5’s Guest Bartenders Shift
Exclusive concoctions by Sam Wong for this Club 5 guest shift are (left to right) – Sunny, Shine Bright Like A Diamond, and Kopi Bon Hon.

Sam Wong will be presenting three cocktails – Shine Bright Like A Diamond, Sunny, and Kopi Bon Hon. Shine Bright Like A Diamond is a yuzu twist on the classic French 75, while Sunny is Sam’s take on Malaysia’s national cocktail Jungle Bird made using Matusalem Solera 7 Years Rum. Kopi Bon Hon is a coffee-inflected Manhattan concocted with Jura 12 Years Old single malt and vermouth that’s been infused with local coffee beans.

On the other hand, Edwin Poh will be showcasing Rojak-Rojak, Morning Kaya Roti Set, and Teh Limau Ice. Rojak-Rojak is a gin sour made with Nordes Gin that’s explosive with the flavours of the Javanese salad, but if you love the flavours of Singapore’s favourite breakfast combination of kaya toast and local coffee you’ll enjoy the sweet creamy pandan flavours of Morning Kaya Roti Set. If you prefer something more refreshing, Teh Limau Ice is a Matusalem rum-based alcoholic version of iced lemon tea.

While this Club 5 guest shift will only be for an evening, these special cocktails by Wong and Poh will continue to be available at Club 5 from 29 April to 6 May 2021. Reservations for this Club 5 Guest Bartender Night session are highly recommended.
