The latest limited-edition release from Hendrick’s is the Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin, inspired by the sand and surf of the Scottish coast.

Can you taste the sea in a bottle? Popular Scottish gin brand Hendrick’s wants you to believe you can with its latest release. The Hendrick’s Neptunia, the third small-batch, limited release from its Cabinet of Curiosities following the moonstruck Lunar Gin and Midsummer Solstice Gin inspired by the seasonal celestial phenomenon, draws its influence from the sea. In particular, the rugged Ayrshire coast off the Firth of Clyde in Scotland’s southwest.

Hendrick’s Master Distiller Lesley Gracie was inspired to create this maritime number, awestruck as she was by the crashing waves and enchanting sea breezes as she strolled along these shores.

“Most of my creations are based on memories – I play around with botanicals and combine them to recreate certain sensations. Hendrick’s Neptunia, for me, is that freeing feeling of the sea bottled in a gin,” Gracie explained. “”You have that distinctive fresh character of coastal herbs, depth of flavour from the sea botanicals and an unmistakable clean, bright citrus finish that lifts and lightens in a round, refreshing way that makes it Hendrick’s.”

Gracie doesn’t quite state exactly what went into the Hendrick’s Neptunia to make it a maritime gin; all Hendrick’s would reveal was that it uses “deeply refreshing coastal botanicals for a combination of a smooth, bright citrus finish with a deliciously distant sea breeze”.

Which obviously doesn’t say much.

Hendrick's Neptunia Neptunia Fizz
The Neptunia Fizz combines one part fresh lime juice, one part simple syrup, and then topped with soda.

Sure, on the nose is slightly saline, while the palate offers a light briny and mineral note you can generously attribute to a coastal influence. Everything else is unmistakably and uniquely Hendrick’s; floral rose and chamomile, citrusy lemon and orange, and a slight spiciness from coriander. And of course, the freshness of cucumber. In that sense, the Hendrick’s Neptunia is nothing like, say, the St. Laurent Gin from Quebec, Canada-based Distillerie du St Laurent, which comes with intense briny flavours due to the use of kombu seaweed during its botanical infusion.

Still, it is alluring on its own right. We can see this limited release flourish in a gin and tonic, or a very dry Martini. “It is exquisite with tonic and a slice of cucumber. Or try Hendrick’s Neptunia Fizz – a simple yet impressive mix combining two parts of Hendrick’s Neptunia with one part fresh lime juice, one part simple syrup, and topped with soda,” shared Charmaine Thio, Southeast Asia Brand Ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin.

And we also like – that with a product inspired by the sea – Hendrick’s is giving back and working on marine conservation by partnering with Project Seagrass. Hendrick’s Neptunia will raise urgent awareness and funds to support seagrass meadows and the vital role they play in providing food and habitat for thousands of marine species and those that rely on them. Additionally, Hendrick’s is funding new projects such as a targeted seagrass study on the west coast of Scotland, where the Hendrick’s Gin Palace is located, that will unlock the opportunity for restorative work in this region.

Hendrick’s Neptunia is available from Cold Storage, iShopChangi and WG&S brand stores on LazMall and Shopee at a recommended retail price of S$115.
