Cult favourite Mexican taqueria Papi’s Tacos on Seah Street opens a spanking new outlet along Tanjong Pagar Road.

Love your Mexican food? If so, you would have heard of casual, no-frills taqueria Papi’s Tacos on Seah Street. Heck, chances are you’d be a regular there, chomping on their supremely authentic tacos and washing them down with classic Margaritas on a more than occasional basis.

Well if you do, the good news is that Papi’s has just opened a bigger – and prettier – outlet. The new space is located on Tanjong Pagar Road, along the same stretch where you’d find a multitude of Korean barbecue eateries.

Papi’s Tacos is casual, no-frills, and fun – just the way we like our Mexican soirees.

The menu at Papi’s Tacos Tanjong Pagar is a near carbon copy of the original at Seah Street, so expect to find most of your favourites here as well.

We recommend you kick off your meal with the Holy Trinity of tortilla chips, fresh tomato salsa and guacamole. Pair that with a jug of Margarita for the perfect opener; our favourite is their Frozen Lime Margarita, but their strawberry and spicy mango ones are also good fun.

You might want to move on to their Elotes, that classic street Mexican street snack of grilled corn slathered with homemade aioli, cotija cheese and chipotle powder, or Aguachile de Barramundi, a Mexican-style ceviche of sliced barramundi drenched in a spicy lime dressing.

papi's tacos - fish tacos
A wide variety of tacos available at Papi’s, but the Pescado – featuring battered fish – is most definitely the best here.

But the tacos are the stars here. We found the Asada a little too under-seasoned for our liking, but the Al Pastor of marinated pork shoulder was redolent with flavour. The winner here is the Pescado; battered dory fish wrapped up with shredded vegetables and guajillo salsa made for a perfect, soul-satisfying bite. Another thing we enjoyed was the surprisingly delicious Mushroom Quesadilla, which tasted like a really good mushroom pizza.

We’d say skip the desserts, but only because we like to end our meal at a place like this the best way we know how – chupitas shots!

A bonus? Papi’s Tacos Tanjong Pagar is open till late on Sundays, which is rare in the Tanjong Pagar district.
