New outlet of So France on Claymore Drive brings yet another bastion of comforting classic French fare to Orchard Road.

If you’re a Francophile when it comes to gastronomic choices you’re probably aware of So France at DUO Galleria. Since opening in 2018, the casual bistro-epicerie has regaled diners with its uncomplicated brand of traditional French fare. It now brings that singular Gallic focus to Orchard Road with its new outlet on Claymore Drive.

Like the original Bugis outlet, the new So France is more than a bistro – there’s an entire section dedicated to retail, offering an entire spectrum of French produce ranging from various gourmet charcuterie favourites and wines to baked goods and all manner of packaged products from France.

And if you’re looking to dine in, the Claymore Drive offshoot offers a similarly full French experience, with menus spanning breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea, as well as dinner.

So France Claymore retail epicerie
Tucked behind the bistro at So France Claymore is a sprawling retail section offering all manner of French produce.

We visited during dinner, and enjoyed very minute of it.

The Beef Tartare was as good as we remembered it from DUO, the meat unctuous to the bite with piquancy from mustard cutting through the richness. Then there’s the Garlic Butter Snails, the rich garlic-lashed butter sauce of the escargots demanding crisp baguette for mopping up.

And if you’re a fan of foie gras, the Foie Gras Terrine is absolutely scrumptious. But it’s the Pan Seared Foie Gras you want for a fuller, real taste of foie. Or how about the Duck Confit, which is about as traditional as it gets?

so france sea bass
Not quite your classic French fare, but the Chilean Sea Bass at So France Claymore was perfectly executed.

For mains, the classic Steak Frites and Ribeye Steak are unlikely to disappoint. If you prefer something different, the Chilean Sea Bass was perfectly seared and utterly delightful, while the deliciously unctuous beef stew that is the Boeuf Bourguignon will make any Burgundian matriarch proud.

And don’t forget the wines. Some of the wines carried at So France is exclusively brought in, so you’ll have a spread of comfortably priced wines from across different French winemaking regions – from well known appellations like Bordeaux and Burgundy to lesser known ones like Jura and Auvergne – to pair with your food.

If you’re looking for a little slice of France on Orchard Road, So France at Claymore Drive should be your destination de jour.
