Barcelona’s Paradiso emerges as No.1 in World’s 50 Best Bars 2022; Jigger & Pony and Manhattan represent Singapore on the vaunted awards list.
Barcelona’s Paradiso is No.1 on this year’s World’s 50 Best Bars. The speakeasy cocktail bar – which lays hidden behind an unassuming pastrami shop – has dethroned London’s Connaught Bar this year, marking the first time the accolade has been won by a bar outside of New York or London.
“Since being named One To Watch in 2017 a year after opening, Paradiso has been a firm fixture of the 50 Best list, enhancing its ranking year after year,” said Mark Sansom, Content Director of The World’s 50 Best Bars. “It is an honour to name it as The World’s Best Bar and the win is credit to Paradiso’s outlandishly inventive cocktail programme, sustainable ethos, work in the global bar community and brilliant sense of fun.”
“The fact that this is the first time we have crowned a bar outside New York or London as The World’s Best Bar is a testament to the huge achievements of Giacomo, Margarita and their team,” Sansom added.
Unlike last year when six Singapore bars made the top 50, this year the Lion City is only represented by two bars. Jigger & Pony and Manhattan remain the shining lights of Singapore’s cocktail bar scene, announced at No.12 and No.33 on the awards list respectively (they were No.9 and No.15 in 2021).
ATLAS (No.67), No Sleep Club (No.69), and MO BAR (No.57) – which were No.16, No.26, and No.36 respectively last year – dropped out of the Top 50, joining Sago House (No.51), 28 HongKong Street (No.55), Analogue Initiative (No.65), Nutmeg & Clove (No.74), and Republic Bar (No.90) in the secondary World’s 50 Best Bars list announced last week.
Tippling Club, which was No.43 last year, fell out of the list altogether.

“With 10 Singapore bars on the World’s 50 Best Bars and its extended list, we hope this incredible honour can be a calling card for people to visit our city – to experience Singapore’s vibrant and thriving cocktail culture, and to enjoy the diverse experiences our bar community has to offer,” Gan added, speaking from Barcelona.
“It’s an incredible privilege to be flying the Singapore flag high as one of the top bars in the world, eight years in a row,” said Rusty Cerven, Bar Manager at Manhattan, Regent Singapore. “Being included in the World’s 50 Best Bars is already a wonderful achievement. The team has had a remarkable year since coming out of the pandemic, and we are truly fortunate to be in the company of some of the most awe-inspiring bars and bartenders across the globe,” he said.
The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022 featured bars from a total of 26 cities from around the world. 14 of those 50 entries are new to the list (hailing from cities such as Athens, Buenos Aires, Dubai, Lisbon, and Naples), demonstrating the growth and diversity of the global cocktail scene that has surged in recent years.
“We are delighted to once again be able to showcase the incredible diversity of the global bar sector, from grand hotel bars and dive bars to neighbourhood speakeasies and stunning rooftop spaces. The World’s 50 Best Bars list is compiled by votes from The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, which comprises more than 650 drinks experts with 50/50 gender parity, including renowned bartenders and consultants, drinks writers and cocktail specialists from around the world.
