Renowned whisky producer Bunnahabhain is set to bring a taste of Islay to town with Bunnahabhain Festival at Quaich Bar Wanderlust later this month.
Single malt whisky lovers – especially fans of Bunnahabhain – take note. Islay whisky maker Bunnahabhain is set to unveil Bunnahabhain Festival here in Singapore, introducing the rich history of its distillery and flavours of its highly-acclaimed whiskies in a one-day whisky celebration.
To be held on 22 August 2024 at Quaich Bar Wanderlust at InterContinental Singapore in collaboration with The Whisky Store, Bunnahabhain Festival is inspired by Fèis Ìle – the annual week-long whisky festival that sees a pilgrimage of peatheads to Islay every May – and will feature special releases from the Islay distillery as well as see its celebrated Master Distiller Andrew Brown grace the event.
For those unfamiliar with Bunnahabhain, the distillery – located on the northeast coast of Islay at the mouth of the Margadale river for which it is named, Bun na h-Abhainn or “mouth of the river” – is unusual for the fact that it uses primarily unpeated barley, unlike its Islay contemporaries. Indeed its core range, such as the Bunnhabhain 12 Year Old, 18 Year Old and 25 Year Old are unique for Islay releases in that they are unpeated (even if they feature a hint of smoke or saline due to aging in proximity to the coast and other distilleries). The Toiteach A Dhà, or “Smoky Two”, is a rare peated expression from the distillery.
For Bunnahabhain Festival, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase and sample unqiue and special expressions. Showcased at the mini whisky fest at Quaich Bar Wanderlust will be the well-aged 30 Year Old and 40 Year Old bottlings, but also the Fèis Ìle 2024 exclusive specially released for the Fèis Ìle celebrations earlier this year.
Those attending will also have the rare opportunity to meet Andrew up front and hear from him up close in exclusive masterclasses featuring tastings of Bunnahabhain’s 18 Year Old, 25 Year Old, 30 Year Old, and 40 Year Old whiskies.
The Festival Pass for the Bunnahabhain Festival are priced at S$18 nett, which includes a
complimentary dram, a mini Glencairn glass, and access to specially priced drams, bottlings
and cocktails. Masterclass tickets – which include the Festival Pass – are available at S$128 nett. The festival will close with an afterparty that has free-flow Islay highballs at the price of S$38 nett.
