UK’s oldest fine wine and spirits merchant enters auction market with the launch of Berry Bros. & Rudd Auctions.

The fine wine auctions market looks set to heat up with yet another new entrant. Berry Bros. & Rudd, the UK’s oldest fine wine and spirits merchant, announced earlier this week the introduction of Berry Bros. & Rudd Auctions, with its first auction scheduled for customers globally later this autumn.

“Launching Auctions is a natural step for Berry Bros. & Rudd. We are global experts in fine wine and spirits, and our authentication processes and storage are among the best in the world,” said Geordie Willis, Director of New Ventures for Berry Bros. & Rudd. “We have a long-held legacy in guiding our customers to select and collect the best fine wines and spirits. Our longstanding reputation as a respected and trusted merchant means
we are perfectly placed to work with some of the world’s leading collectors to open up their
collections to the world.”

The merchant shared that its specialist in-house team of authentication experts carefully inspects the provenance of each bottle of wine in a double authentication process before its enters storage. Berry Bros. & Rudd owns one of the biggest fine wine storage facilities for private clients in the world – and the largest in Europe – with the capacity of some 14 million bottles.

The newly launched Auctions builds on the success of BBX, its online fine wine exchange
platform first launched in 2010 as a way to let customers to sell their wines to a community of fellow fine wine lovers.

Berry Bros. & Rudd CEO Emma Fox, who was in Singapore earlier this week to celebrate its 25 years of business in Asia, shared that the move into the auction space allows the merchant to extend their long-standing expertise in the fine wine space. “Berry Bros. & Rudd Auctions will give collectors in Asia and around the world an opportunity to acquire some of the rarest and most desired wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, and more,” Fox explained.

“Through this new auction service Berry Bros. & Rudd will continue building our reputation as a trusted partner for discerning wine enthusiasts across Asia”, she added.

Berry Bros. & Rudd Auctions will set a buyer’s premium at a competitive rate of 20%. More
details about the individual lots for its first auction to be released in due course.
