Sleek, compact and yet utilitarian, the 20-bottle EuropAce EWC8202DBK wine chiller is designed with convenience and simplicity in mind.

The EuropAce EWC8202DBK, a compact wine chiller designed by the Singapore appliance maker for small collections, might just be the smallest standing wine chiller we’ve seen. At just a width of 295mm and a depth of 645mm, its footprint is tiny. And while it’s just able to only hold around twenty bottles of wine, its very petite size allows it to be squeezed into certain quarters that may not accommodate its larger counterparts.

But first, its build.

Clad in all black with sleek and clean aluminium lines, the design and aesthetic of the EuropAce EWC8202DBK is strictly utilitarian and yet remains stylishly classy.

EuropAce EWC8202DBK boasts a solid external build.

Available as both free-standing and built-in options, the wine chiller’s heavy obsidian-edged triple-layered door – made with advanced anti-UV glass for added protection against light strike – comes with a recessed edge instead of the usual protruding handle, saving even more space and, for those more clumsy among us, prevents any bruises from accidental knocks.

Your eyes instantly gets attracted to the unit’s beautiful slim but sturdy natural beechwood shelves, each stave well-smoothened to prevent damage to wine labels. The shelves can be easily slid in and out for convenient loading and unloading of bottles. Unfortunately you cannot adjust the height of each individually shelf, but they can be removed if you need to accommodate bigger or oddly shaped bottles (but note that this will compromise capacity).

It is lit within with a soft LED light, which also helps avoid light damage to your wines.

The EWC8202DBK offers user-friendly LED touch controls

The unit’s user-friendly LED touch controls are also uncomplicated and intuitive, adjustable for temperatures between 5°C and 18°C, suitable for storing either red or white wines. This model does not offer proper humidity control, which can be a concern in our tropical climate.

Due to its size, it is but a single zone chiller with just one cooling unit. Which, of course, has both advantages and disadvantages. Again, because of its size the limited cool air will dissipate quickly if the door is left open for too long and condensation can happen. Also, a single zone means all bottles are cooled to the same set temperature, which may not be ideal for those who prefer to have their white wines more chilled than their reds. On the plus side it also cools back down very quickly, the triple pane glass door helping to moderate temperature loss, reducing condensation and enhancing energy efficiency.

The internal compressor system is quiet and relatively vibration-free, helping to preserve the integrity of the wines.

Small is the new big

The EuropAce EWC8202DBK is incredibly compact and versatile, prioritising functionality and aesthetics while maintaining a user-friendly design. Perfect for those with limited space or just beginning their wine journey, this unit is definitely suited towards those who are more into the drinking of rather than the collection of wine.

While it lacks the capacity and advanced features of larger or more premium models, there are still a number of use cases.

If you live along in a tiny studio or loft apartment, for example. For those living in larger spaces, we can also see this acting as secondary wine chiller, built into the kitchen island for storing wines used for cooking such as sherry, port, or Madeira, or fit snugly into a home bar to store more fragile aromatised wines such as vermouths and amaros.

But this petite contraption can also, for example, be tucked under the desk of a big company executive who hosts clients in their office, or sit in the office pantry of a small-sized business.

If you’re a casual wine drinker looking for a reliable chiller to store your favourite drinking wines nearby without taking up much space, the excellent entry-level EuropAce EWC8202DBK wine chiller is definitely worth considering.

The EuropAce EWC8202DBK wine chiller is available from EuropAce or good appliance store such as Courts, Best Denki, Harvey Norman, Gain City, Audio House, and Mega Discount at a recommended retail price of S$1,099. Larger capacity models are also available.
