Specialty importer Epicurean Nomads is organizing a sake tasting session featuring a range of sakes from Fukuchiyo Shuzō, a sake brewery located south of Saga City in the town of Kashima on the Japanese island of Kyushu. Founded in 1885, the small traditional brewery caters mostly to the domestic market, but in recent times have expanded to Australia and now is available in Singapore in limited quantities.
During the tasting session – which is paired with light Japanese appetizers – participants will be available to taste four of Fukuchiyo Shuzō’s Nabeshima sakes, including the award-winning Nabeshima Daiginjo. The Nabeshima Daiginjo in 2011 took the top spot in its category at the International Wine Challenge, beating out 467 other sakes from 206 breweries at the competition, the largest outside of Japan.
Fukuchiyo Shuzō president Naoki Iimori will be on hand to guide the tasting.
The tasting session will take place at Horse’s Mouth on 11 June, and will cost $60++ per person. There will be two sessions, one at 6.30pm and a second at 9.30pm.
