iBrew Challenge 2017

Singapore’s premiere annual homebrew competition iBrew Challenge is back for its 11th edition and will take place on Saturday 9 September 2017 from 2pm to 7pm at the open field outside its store.
There are many beer events throughout Singapore’s busy events calendar, but if given the choice of picking just one to attend in a year true beer connoisseurs hone in on the highly anticipated homebrewing competition iBrew Challenge. Organised by iBrew Marketing, iBrew Challenge – which is in its 11th year now – celebrates the art of homebrewing in Singapore, but beer fans know that the competition always flows with really good homebrewed and craft beer.
iBrew Challenge 2017 will see more than 30 homebrews made by some of the community’s most experienced homebrewers. If you think that it all sounds too amateurish, remember that some of these award-winning homebrewers have turned professional – Singapore gypsy brewer John Wei of Brewlander first showcased his home brewing experiments at this event many years back, and Little Island Brewing Co’s assistant head brewer Andrew Tierney won a number of awards at iBrew Challenge before joining the Singapore microbrewery.
The main competition segments of this year’s iBrew Challenge will be the Bottle Competition, The Five Best Kegs, The People’s Choice Best Keg Award and the Best of Show.
The Bottle Competition segment is judged a week prior to the event by a panel of BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Programme) certified judges and industry experts – some of whom are from Hong Kong and Australia – according to the following seven categories:
- Lager
- Light Ale
- Dark/Strong Ale
- India Pale Ale (IPA)
- Farmhouse & Sour
- Belgian
- Specialty
The seven runners up and winners of the Bottle Competition will be unveiled during the main event.
The Five Best Kegs will be selected by all the invited keg contributors and judges. Once these Five Best Kegs have been chosen, attendees then vote for their favourite from these five and the winner will win the People’s Choice Best Keg Award.
The Best of Show is the ultimate award and it will be determined by industry experts from the seven Bottle Competition winners and the People’s Choice Best Keg.
Aside from the chance of trying out the many home brews on offer, iBrew Challenge will also feature a number of craft beers available for free flow.
The event costs $50 per person if your ticket is purchased online (here); it is $60 at the door.
