Quirky yakitori restaurant Birders will be for one night on Sunday 17 June 2017 from 6pm hosting a Rockfish pop-up bar featuring Rockfish head bartender Kazunari Maguchi.
If you’re a fan of the whisky highball you may have heard of Kazunari Maguchi; the highball maestro from Rockfish Ginza is a well-known practitioner of the special Kansai-style highball, a variation of that is not built over ice but rather sees the whisky, soda, and even the glass chilled so that the drink remains full flavoured. In case you’re wondering, Kazunari Maguchi learnt his trade at Samboa in Osaka – the city is part of the Kansai region – where the legendary variation was originally created.
For the pop-up, pre-event tickets – no tickets will be sold at the door – are available here at $20 each; each ticket includes 2 Kansai-style highballs. Each Kansai-style highball will go for $14+ per glass. Birders will also introduce some additional menu items specially for this pop-up, including a yakitori platter that uses whisky infused sauce and a chicken stew.
