Peranakan Weekend - Aberfeldy 12 & 16 w Savouries

Embark on a captivating journey with Peranakan Weekend. Organised by the Kuchibrat Kollective, Peranakan Weekend takes place on 3 and 4 November in Kuala Lumpur with three events that celebrate the vibrant world of Peranakan culture, artistry, and cuisine.

At the heart of Peranakan Weekend are two six-hand dinners, featuring three distinguished chefs from different cities that teem with Peranakan culture – private dining chef Julia Ung from Penang, chef-author Debbie Teoh from Melaka, and Singapore’s private dining chef Lionel Chee (whom local gastrophiles know as the founder of the iconic but now sadly defunct Casa Bom Vento).

Taking place at Pacific Lounge in Pan Pacific Serviced Suites, the six-hands dinners feature signature Peranakan dishes such as Ayam Buah Keluak and Itik Sioh, as well as deconstruction of the “Jiu Hu Char”, an umami-laden creation of cuttlefish and mushroom toast, served with coriander and belacan butter; and the old and forgotten flavourful soup recipe from Penang – Masak Titik, made with watermelon rind, prawns and pepper. The dinner on 3 November features cocktail pairings in collaboration with Remy Cointreau, while the one on 4 November comes paired with Aberfeldy whisky. Tuak – the indigenous alcoholic wine made from rice or palm – will also be served on both nights.

There’s also an afternoon tea session on 4 November as part of Peranakan Weekend; diners can expect to try Nonya snacks such as Pulut Panggang, Otah on Rye, Lemak Laksa, and more.

6-hands dinner showcasing cultural influences in the Peranakan dishes of Penang, Melaka and Singapore pairing with tuak, spirits and cocktails. Taste near-extinct Peranakan dishes and familiar ones with a modern touch from Debbie Teoh (Melaka), Lionel Chee (Singapore) and Julia Ung (Penang).

8-course dinner pairing with four Remy Cointreau cocktails by David Hans, a welcome G&T and tuak: RM598nett per person

4 November 2023 (Saturday), 3pm – 5pm
The Botanist, PARKROYAL Collection Kuala Lumpur lobby level

Accompanied by live jazz performance to go with Nyonya sweet and savoury bites with free-flow Bombay Sapphire G&Ts. Menu include Pulut Panggang, Otah on Rye, Brinjal & Shrimp, Lemak Laksa, Kuih-muihs.
