[Austrian Wine Week] Wine pairing dinner at Chef’s Table

Chef’s Table by Chef Stephan Zoisl will commemorate Austrian Wine Week with a one-night only wine pairing dinner on Saturday 19 November at 7pm that will feature wines from Austrian wineries Gross and Leo Hillinger, as well as spirits from Austrian distillery Farthofer.

To commemorate Austrian Wine Week, two of Austria’s oldest and most renowned wineries, Winery Gross and Winery Leo Hillinger and one of Austria’s most famous distilleries, Distillery Farthofer, will pair their unique wines and spirits with an exquisite 6-course meal by Austrian native Chef Stephan Zoisl (pictured).

Michael and Maria Gross, owners of Gross Winery will be present to share some of their wines which include the Sauvignon Blanc Ried Nussberg  a highly complex and extremely well-aging Sauvignon Blanc. The soils of lime-marl and sand-lime brick yield a wealth of aromas dominated by a harmonious interplay of herbal components and a fine acidity. Fermented in 600 litre barrels, the wine is matured traditionally in large barrels and makes a perfect companion to fish or white poultry.

Micheal Hoeffken, representative of Winery Leo Hillinger will also grace this event, taking you through the history and viniculture of Leo Hillinger. In 2010, Leo Hillinger successfully switched to organic winemaking, focusing on soil development and dispensing with synthetic fertilizers. Michael will share with guests details on their signature wines including the Pinot Blanc Terroir 2015 – spicy with a long finish and married with elements of pear, quince, pineapple and a hint of lavender.

The dinner will also feature Josef Farthofer and Doris Hausberger, who have been managing one of the famed spirit distilleries in Austria, Destillerie Farthofer. For more than a hundred years, distillation of schnapps has been a tradition in their family. Treat yourself to a glass of Schnapps in an array of flavours from Williams Pear and Muscadine Grape to Old Plum.

Chef Stephan will start the meal off with simple snacks inspired by classic Austrian favourites, followed by the 6-course tasting menu inspired by the freshest seasonal ingredients available on the day itself. He will narrate the story of each dish and the inspiration behind them.
