The sirens of Greek mythology were dangerous creatures – usually portrayed as beautiful females – that lured pervy ancient mariners with their enchanting songs so that they dashed their ships on rocks and drowned to death. It’s a bad way to go, really.
A two-year old brewery based in Wokingham, England has named itself after these femme fatales of old, and now threaten to drown unsuspecting imbibers in an ocean of strong malts and bitter hops. But that’s a good way to go. Really.
Founded by Darron Anley and Ryan Witter, Siren Craft Brew aims to constantly discover ways to excite curiosity and share their knowledge of their craft, and believe that beer can be enjoyed in the same way as wine drinkers enjoy the finest wines. The good news, Siren Craft Brew beers will be landing on our shores next week.
“Siren Craft Brew came heavily recommended by our brewer friends at Buxton Brewery and Wild Beer Co,” said Elijah Toh, director of craft beer importer and distributor Applehops, which will be bringing the promising beer brand in. “Despite being only two years old, they have already been voted one of the best new breweries in the world and worked on numerous collaborations with established craft breweries, which speaks a lot about Siren’s credentials,” he added.
Toh had spent six months following up with Siren Craft Brew co-founder Darron Anley, including many phone calls and a couple of personal visits to the brewery, before the deal was finally sealed. “It helped that Siren Craft Brew is also situated only 20 mins drive away from my home in UK,” Toh laughed. The addition of Siren Craft Brew to Applehops lineup strengthens its exclusively British craft beer portfolio that already represents Wales’ Tiny Rebel Brewing Co, as well as Beavertown Brewery, Summer Wine Brewery and Bristol Beer Factory from England, among others.
Siren Craft Brew beers available in Singapore from 27th October include the core range of Siren Soundwave, Siren Undercurrent, Siren Broken Dream, and Siren Liquid Mistress. Hardcore beer fanatics may also be keen on the limited edition Siren Odyssey 001, an imperial stout aged in Banyuls barrels and then blended with fresh Liquid Mistress, although there are only 18 bottles available for the Singapore market. Another limited edition to note will be the Tickle Monster, a triple IPA made in collaboration with Denmark’s To Øl.
