British beer distributor East of Avalon Wines – which ironically distributes more beers than it does wines – has confirmed that they will be bringing in Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker, and Badger’s Leaping Legend and Firkin Fox.

East of Avalon Wines, which distributes both beers from West Yorkshire, England-based Timothy Taylor Brewery and Badger beers from Hall & Woodhouse, has tweaked its product portfolio for the two brands by adding the Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker to join the sole Timothy Taylor’s Landlord – which is supposedly Madonna’s favourite tipple – it previously carried; its Badger range sees the new Leaping Legend and Firkin Fox replace the Badger First Gold and Badger England’s Own.

The Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker was originally brewed in the 1930s to slake the thirst of Yorkshire’ss miners, steelworkers and engineers. It is a multiple award-winning beer, landing a gold medal for the Bitter category as well as the title of Champion Beer of Britain in 2014’s Great British Beer Festival.

According to East of Avalon Wines director George Kirton, Badger’s England Own has been discontinued by the brewery. “(As for the) First Gold we decided not to bring it in anymore as it was selling too slow,” he reveals. In England, Badger’s First Gold – a single hop ale using the First Gold dwarf hop variety – has been recently renamed as First Call possibly to avoid intellectual property rights issues.

Badger’s new Leaping Legend and Firkin Fox sees the brewery experiment with the use of more American hops; Leaping Legend pairs citrusy Amarillo hops with the more traditional British Fuggles hops, while the Firkin Fox uses the more grapefruit-like Cascade hops to supplement Slovenian Celeia.

All three beers are currently available from East of Avalon Wines.
