If you’re a hardcore oenophile, you’re going to like the month of October very much. Here’s why – the coming month will see three large scale wine events that we know of take place on our little red dot. Excited yet?
Indeed the approaching deluge of wine events – there are many other smaller wine-related events happening in October as well – is a great sign that Singapore has truly come of age as a wine market. In fact, according to Euromonitor International wine posted a steady 5% total volume growth to reach 11 million litres in Singapore in 2014, and this despite the rather brutal import duties on alcohol that can easily more than double the shelf prices of wine here compared to if you get them from their source countries.
In any case, here’s a breakdown of the three wine events in October so you know which ones will be worth your time and money on:
1. WineFamily Gathering 2015 – 17 to 18 October
Online wine retail site Winefamily will be holding its annual Winefamily Gathering, an annual wine fair that showcases the portfolio of wines offered by the various participating wine merchants on the online wine marketplace. Held over three sessions across 17 and 18 October at the iconic Singapore Flyer, this year’s Winefamily Gathering will also feature a range of delicious foods to pair with the delectable wines on offer. New this year is a sparkling wine bar, which will showcase various examples of prosecco, cava, and champagne.
Tickets cost between $35-45 each, depending on which session you attend (of which $10 is convertible into a voucher to purchase wine). Wines are in sample portions, although you get a full pour token with your entry fee. Wines featured include the offerings from merchants such as A Wine Affair, Botella, Corney & Barrow, VCT Group of Wineries Asia (Concha y Toro), VINOS EXCLUSIVOS, Water & Wine, The Italian Wine List, and more.
But the best way to attend WineFamily Gathering 2015 is to buy tickets for this “Medici Ermete Italian Sparkling Wine & Food Evening” wine dinner, which comes with tickets to the wine fair.

2. Wine Discovery Weekend – 17 to 18 October
Fellow online wine site Ewineasia.com, a subsidiary of wine importer and distributor Alfa International, will be organising its third Wine Discovery Weekend, anchored by its special wine discovery walkabout tasting event on 17 October at APS Lifestyle Gallery. More than 100 wines from over 40 of the world’s finest artisan wineries will be showcased to event goers, including the likes of Boizel (France), Isole e Olena (Italy), Emilio Moro (Spain), Mt Difficulty (New Zealand), and Miles from Nowhere (Australia).
There will be three complimentary wine masterclasses that will take place concurrently during the walkabout tasting (although you do have to indicate your interest at the checkout when you purchase your ticket). Tickets for the walkabout session costs $45 each. You can find out more about the wine discovery walkabout tasting here.
Also as part of Wine Discovery Weekend, Ewineasia.com is holding three wine pairing events that weekend: an international wine dinner at ME@OUE on 17 October, and a “Journey of Italy” wine brunch at Pietrasanta as well as a “Spanish Wine Discovery Weekend” winemaker’s dinner at Catalunya on 18 October.
3. Wine Fiesta 2015 – 22 to 25 October
The following weekend will see Wine Fiesta, Singapore’s largest annual outdoor wine festival, take place again for its 2015 edition. Organised by regional wine importer and distributor The Straits Wine Company ,Wine Fiesta 2015 happens from 22 to 25 October at Clifford Square and will showcase over 350 wine labels from 82 winemakers from around the world to delight wine enthusiasts of any level.
This year’s edition comes with a theme of “Singapore-style food, wine & music”, and will feature four renowned Singaporean chefs and as well as a bevy of local music talents to provide the added dimension of gastronomic delights and entertainment to complete the experience for guests this year. Various free wine masterclasses will take place at the feista.
