Craft beer importer The Drinkery will be bringing in beers from Coronado, California-based Coronado Brewing Co, with the first shipment arriving this week and ready for distribution to outlets from next week.

The first shipment comprises wholly of Coronado’s core beer range, and is unsurprisingly a showcase of San Diego’s enduring love affair with big, agressive India Pale Ales. Aside from the more approachable Orange Avenue Wit and Mermaid’s Red, there’s the hoppy Islander IPA, as well as the massive, massive Idiot IPA and Stingray IPA, the latter two of which are double IPAs that clock in at over 8.5% and 7.9% ABV respectively.

Coronado Brewing Co. first started out as a beach town brewpub on Coronado Island in 1996, and is one of the pioneers in the San Diego craft beer scene.

The addition of Coronado Brewing Co is likely to be welcome for The Drinkery, which distributes the likes of Modern Times and Green Flash Brewing also from San Diego; Eureka, California’s Lost Coast Brewing, and Hawaii’s Kona Brewing Company. But the craft beer importer is also in the process of resizing its portfolio; it has recently announced that over the next few months it will be phasing out distribution of the likes of Knee Deep Brewing Co., Strand Brewing Co and Widmer Brothers.

Various craft beer bars around town will be holding events to celebrate the launch of Coronado beers, with the beers to be flowing from taps the likes of FreehouseDraft & CraftSmith Street TapsWildfire Burgers Singapore, and Vatos Urban Tacos.
