Online wine retail sites Wanderwine and Winefamily earlier this week announced that they will be joining their fates and merging into a single entity in order to better serve the greater wine community in Singapore.

First launched in 2013, Winefamily was founded by entrepreneur Paul Gerken as a wine marketplace that brought together community of wine merchants on one single online platform for consumers to purchase wines easily in one single transaction. Alexis Lhoyer launched Wanderwine one year later in 2014, as a wine retail site with one unique selling proposition – bottles curated by a number of well-known and highly-regarded Singapore-based sommeliers to help consumers with their purchasing decisions.

Both startups will combine and operate under the Winefamily name, with Wanderwine’s Lhoyer taking the role of CEO while Gerken will assume the position of CMO.

“We are coming together to bring our expertise and existing assets, but certainly we’re also planning to do more. We want to be greater than the sum of our parts, so you can expect exciting wine experiences from us in the near future,” says Gerken.

“You can expect a lot more of what has made us successful. We are passionate about using technology to help people find, drink, and share with friends some awesome wine,” adds Lhoyer, the newly appointed CEO.

WineFamily is currently planning a new release for its platform, which sees a targeted launch in the third quarter of this year.
