DFS Group announces its official farewell at Singapore Changi Airport for its liquor and tobacco business with an online blowout sale of good buys on iShopChangiWines.com.

Luxury travel retailer and long time incumbent DFS at Singapore Changi Airport in August 2019 announced that it would not be renewing its travel retail concessions for liquor and tobacco at Changi Airport and will close all its stores there in mid-2020. That time – 8 June 2020 – is nigh.

DFS first won the the liquor and tobacco concession at Changi Airport back in 1985, and it proceeded to open numerous stores across the different terminals even as the airport expanded. These include stores in Terminal 1 in 1985, Terminal 2 in 1990, followed by the first-of-its-kind Duplex store in Terminal 3 in 2015, another Duplex store in Terminal 2 in 2016, and finally a walkthrough retail concept store at Terminal 4 in 2017, until its shock decision to pull out.

Over those years DFS – which carried more than 700 different wines and spirits brands – had entrenched itself as a destination for airside travelers looking for duty-free booze. It has been home to various small-to large scale alcohol events as well – there’s the annual Masters of Wines and Spirits showcase first launched in 2012, The Craft Festival in 2018 and The Whisky Festival in 2019 – that have enthused visitors over the years. And it has moved more than 200 million bottles of wines and spirits since 1985.

“As one of DFS’ most esteemed allies for the last 35 years, we thank Changi Airport Group for their ongoing support and partnership. We will continue to serve our customers with the same passion for excellence that has distinguished us at Changi Airport until our official exit in June 2020,” said Aymeric Lacroix, DFS Group Managing Director Asia South.

Lotte Duty Free will take over the alcohol and tobacco concessions at Changi Airport from June 2020.

DFS says its good buys.
