Fine Vines Festival – Margaret River, Western Australia

The Fine Vines Festival makes a return to Margaret River after a successful inaugural event last year. Taking place from 14 to 23 October, the wine fest this year puts together a curated selection of over 30 unique wine-soaked events that showcase the quality and diversity of wine – and the people that make them – from the Margaret River wine region that will delight wine lovers and gastrophiles alike.

Events range from a Blue Manna x Woodlands Wines yum cha collaboration and a sundowner at Howard Park featuring sparkling wines, to a wine hop that brings you on a drinking exploration around Busselton’s historic city centre. Love skin contact wines? LS Merchants is throwing a party centred around orange wines. But one of the main highlights for Fine Vines Festival this year has got to be the 40th International Cabernet Tasting hosted by Cape Mentelle that will showcase 20 exquisite 2019 vintage Cabernets from the world’s finest wine-producing regions. Judgement of Margaret River, anybody?

Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations – Coonawarra, South Australia

For oenophiles, Coonawarra means Cabernet. So it’s little surprise that one of the biggest wine festivals in the region centres around those key grape varietals. Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations will take place from 1 to 31 October 2022 this year, and features a wide range of wine events that put Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc up front and centre.

Key events in this month-long wine festival include guided winery visits, a global 2019 vintage Cabernet masterclass led by Ned Goodwin MW at Wynns Coonawarra Gables winery, and even a decadent wine dinner that includes a tasting session featuring Cabernets ten years or older from 15 different Coonawarra vignerons.

You can find out more about Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations 2022 at coonawarra.org, or download the festival programme here.

Mould: A Cheese Festival x Pinot Palooza – Hobart, Tasmania

Heading to Hobart this October? Happening in Tasmania’s capital city the weekend of 21 to 23 October is Mould: A Cheese Festival x Pinot Palooza. This event pairs Australia’s biggest cheese festival with Australia’s biggest wine festival centred around Pinot Noir, which means you get to attend both at the same time.

If you’re a wine lover you’d already know that Pinot Palooza is one of the most important wine festivals in Australia (there’s even a Singapore version). But this combined event will not only showcase over 50 varieties of the very best artisanal cheeses from around the whole of Australia, but also some top Pinot from across the country as well. Even better? Your festival ticket grants you tastings of all cheeses and wines to your desire, so you don’t have to wrestle with limited tokens or what not.
