First built in 2007, the recently-refurbished award-winning property – its the only one in Western Australia that’s a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World – offers 60 rooms of various types and configurations catering to different accommodation needs.
All rooms come equipped with full kitchen and laundry facilities. There’s the one-bedroom beach shack or one-bedroom apartment perfect for couples on a honeymoon, while the two-bedroom beach shack or two-bedroom beach house can house a family.
There are even larger options. The three- or four-bedroom beach house can cater for larger gatherings of friends and family – or even a small corporate retreat – with double living areas for more space.
For ultimate beachfront living, opt for the ocean view options. For example, the three-bedroom ocean view villa offers an upper storey – complete with a comfortable outdoor patio – with an expansive view of the coast and Indian Ocean yonder. At night, the gentle caress of the waves hitting the shore will lull you into peaceful sleep.
A two-minute walk takes you to Smiths Beach. For adventurous nature lovers, a path here brings you to the Cape to Cape walking track that takes you all the way to Canal Rocks for some of the best scenic ocean views Western Australia can offer.
Smiths Beach Resort is located abut 30 minutes drive to Busselton or Margaret River town proper if you crave civilisation i.e. to pick up groceries or looking for dining options. Speaking of dining, just 15 minutes away by car in Dunsborough is Yarri Restaurant + Bar headed by one of Western Australia’s most well-known chefs Aaron Carr, which we highly recommend. For wine lovers, there are many Margaret River wineries within easy driving distance such as Wills Domain (11 minutes), Clairault Streicker (13 minutes), Woodlands Wines (15 minutes), Pierro (16 minutes), and Vasse Felix (20 minutes).
Feeling idyllic instead? Resort facilities include an infinity pool, a children’s wading pool, and even a professional tennis court so you can enjoy and relax on the premises. For eats there’s the on-site Lamont’s Restaurant, part of the restaurant group run by another one of Western Australia’s well-known chefs, Kate Lamont.
For a truly indulgent dining experience though? Approach the concierge to book a private dining experience. We had the pleasure of having chef-owner Ben Jacob of Yallingup’s seafood restaurant Lagoon come in and cook up a gastronomic storm using local WA produce in our villa’s kitchen, and dining and wining while looking out to sea.
