Penfolds launches its Barossa Valley Explorer Pack, a limited-edition ‘travel case’ containing two of its iconic Bins wines from that famous South Australian wine region.

Not able to travel to South Australia’s Barossa Valley wine country? Well, Penfolds has just the thing. The popular Australian wine brand has just released a special limited-edition wine set that may just barely salve that travel itch – its Barossa Valley Explorer Pack.

The Barossa Valley Explorer Pack comes as a wine carrier – in shiny Penfolds red livery – that looks wholly like a travel case. The Singapore version houses two of Penfolds’ iconic wines from the Barossa Valley (obviously) – Bin 138 Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache 2018 and Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz 2018.

For those not too familiar with Barossa, this internationally-acclaimed South Australian winemaking region – located barely an hour away from Adelaide – is home to soils that are considered among some of the oldest in the world, dating back over 200 million years. These soils make the rich and powerful Shiraz-based wines that today Barossa is known for.

Such as the Bin 138 and Bin 150.

Penfolds Barossa Valley Explorer Pack

The Bin 138 Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache 2018 is a blend of Shiraz with Grenache, a red grape varietal in Barossa that’s a little of an unsung hero. The Grenache adds juiciness and generosity and helps round out the more spicy and rich Shiraz, making the Bin 138 a great food companion. On the other hand the Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz 2018 is pure Shiraz. And from Marananga at that, home to some of Barossa’s most iconic wineries. Rich, ripe and powerfully earthy, the Bin 150 is made for slow sipping, and – we hazard a guess – would pair fabulously with a Cuban cigar.

The set even comes with a booklet with tasting notes that look wholly like a passport. Truth be told, if you’re anything like me this is just going to make us all the more desperate to plan a trip to the Barossa.

The Penfolds limited-edition Barossa Valley Explorer Pack retails at S$138 from February 2023 onwards at select wine retailers and major supermarkets including Cold Storage, FairPrice, and Bottles & Bottles. While stocks last.
