British music legend Sir Rod Stewart brings his flamboyant take on blended Scotch to the table with Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky.
Sir Rod Stewart is known for many things – the legendary British rock singer, songwriter, and performer’s distinctive raspy voice and vocal style has propelled him into music superstardom, for one. But over the past five decades he’s also recognised as a multi-talented artist, a dynamic fashion icon – those flamboyant outfits and that gravity-defying hair! – and even a dedicated philanthropist who has channelled his fame and resources in supporting causes that run from children’s charities and cancer research.
And now, add whisky maker into the mix.
Sir Rod Stewart has teamed up with Scottish Highland single malt distillery Loch Lomond to produce his own brand of blended Scotch whisky called Wolfie’s Whisky. The whisky is inspired by the music legend’s early hell-raising days, rock and roll influences and his own British heritage, while offering subtle nods to Americana.
As its name implies, Wolfie’s is a 40% ABV blended Scotch that marries grain whisky and malt whiskies that’s been aged in ex-bourbon American oak casks for a lightly peated blend. According to its tasting notes, Wolfie’s offers “warming cinnamon, fresh vanilla, baked apple, sweet peat, and pears in syrup, finishing with candied citrus peels and a gentle oak spice”.
The red-emblazoned bottle livery itself carries Rod’s signature, as well as the words ‘rhythm of the heart’ inscribed on the base of the bottle. Fans will recognise that as the title of his emblematic song from the 1991 album ‘Vagabond Heart’. And fittingly so; after all the song was a nod to his own Scottish heritage, with the melody adapted from the traditional folk song Loch Lomond.
Originally launched in June this year across the UK and Europe, Rod Stewart intends to launch Wolfie’s Whisky in the United States coinciding with his critically-acclaimed North American tour this August.
“Wolfie’s has been a triumph across the UK and Europe and following the path of my early career, our goal is to take Wolfie’s across the pond and introduce this fine tipple to my fans in the US,” said Rod Stewart. “Fine tuned, it’s perfect over ice or mixed into a favourite cocktail.
