Sézanne wins the coveted top spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024; Singapore continues to demonstrate its gastronomic leadership in the region with nine eateries from the Lion City on the list.

Tokyo fine-dining French restaurant Sézanne was earlier this week crowned as the winner of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024. Unveiled at a glittering live awards ceremony in Seoul, this year’s hotly-contested awards list saw the flagship Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo restaurant lead a gaggle of outstanding restaurants of every culinary stripe from 19 cities across the region.

Singapore again presented a strong showing. Voted by members of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy – an influential gender-balanced group of more than 300 leaders made up of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and regional culinary experts – this year saw nine restaurants from the Lion City recognised on the annual list.

The nine Singapore restaurants that entered into top 50 of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list (vs 2023) are:

  • Odette (#10)/(#6)
  • Burnt Ends (#15)/(#24)
  • Euphoria (#20)/(#25)
  • Born (#25)/(#36)
  • Meta (#28)/(#17)
  • Labyrinth (#30)/(#11)
  • Seroja (#31)/(new entry)
  • Les Amis (#38)/(#27)
  • Lolla (#43)/(new entry)

Julien Royer’s fine-dining French restaurant Odette continues to be Singapore’s leading culinary light as the only Singapore entry in the top 10, while playful contemporary barbecue restaurant Burnt Ends and introspective modern Asian restaurant Born climbed an impressive nine and 11 places respectively to land at the No.15 and No.25 positions.

New entries from Singapore include contemporary Malaysian restaurant Seroja (No.31) and Mediterranean-inspired Lolla (No.43).

Highly lauded Zén and Cloudstreet surprisingly fell out of the top 50 this year despite their relatively lofty positions in 2023, landing into the secondary list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 announced earlier this month. They were No.57 and No.82 respectively.

Restaurant Born continues to impress with its introspective cross-cultural take on modern Asian cuisine, landing it its No.25 spot on the coveted list.

Altogether there were eight Singapore eateries on the secondary list. Aside from Zén and Cloudstreet there is JAAN by Kirkwestaway (No.53), Thevar (No.72), Nae:Um (No.73), Peach Blossoms (No.74), Summer Pavilion (No.75), and Mustard Seed (No.81). Contemporary Chinese restaurant Peach Blossoms and kaiseki-style Singapore restaurant Mustard Seed are new entries to the awards list.

Among the ancillary awards, Seroja grabbed the ‘Highest New Entry Award’. Then there’s the ‘Art of Hospitality Award’ and ‘Sustainable Restaurant Award’, which were picked up by Nusara and Haoma, respectively, both from Bangkok. Kevin Lu of Taipei’s Logy won the title of ‘Asia’s Best Sommelier Award’, while Mineko Kato of Faro in Tokyo was named ‘Asia’s Best Pastry Chef’. As for the ‘Chef’s Choice Award’, the title went to Sung Anh of Mosul in Seoul.

With a total of 17 spots on the extended Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list – the highest by any city in Asia – Singapore continues to demonstrate a commanding presence in the region’s gastronomic landscape.

“It is truly uplifting to witness such a rich array of exceptional dining establishments spanning 19 cities in Asia, including eight exciting newcomers,” said William Drew, Director of Content at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. “We extend our sincere congratulations to the esteemed restaurants featured on this year’s ranking — a true example of the vibrancy and diversity of Asia’s culinary landscape. Special acknowledgement is in order for the entire Sézanne team: its impeccable cuisine, hospitality and innovative approach has resulted in the restaurant becoming a must-visit destination.”
