The newly-announced list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 names Disfrutar at No.1, while Singapore’s only entry Odette comes in at No.24.

The best restaurant in the world this year, at least according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, is Disfrutar. The fine-dining Barcelona restaurant, which specialises in experimental tasting menus built around Mediterranean flavours, came up tops at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, announced at a sparkling awards ceremony earlier this week in Las Vegas.

The 2024 list saw 50 restaurants from 26 different territories across five continents lauded for their culinary excellence. Closer to home, Bangkok’s Gaggan rose eight places to No.9 and was Asia’s best performing restaurant, while Singapore’s own Odette took the No.24 spot.

Other Asia restaurants include Tokyo’s Sézanne (No.15), Florilège (No.21), and Den (No.32); Hong Kong’s Wing (No.20) and The Chairman (No.26); Bangkok’s Sühring (No.23) Sorn (No.38), and Le Du (No.40); as well as Seoul’s Mingles (No.44).

Disfrutar’s win sees it return Spain to global gastronomic dominance after eight years, with Girona’s El Cellar de Can Roca last winning it for Spain back in 2015. In fact, El Cellar de Can Roca and the now-defunct El Bulli took the top spot seven times between them since the annual awards was first inaugurated in 2002.

In an earlier announcement, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants unveiled its top 51-100 winners for 2024. Singapore restaurants named to the secondary list were Burnt Ends (No.68), Labyrinth (No.92), and Meta (No.95).

“It is with great excitement that we announce the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, and honour the iconoclastic Disfrutar as The World’s Best Restaurant. The team, led by Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas, has shown extraordinary dedication to its craft, amazing and delighting diners with every dish on its extensive menu,” shared William Drew, Director of Content for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

“This year sees the culinary community celebrate a truly global list featuring restaurants across 26 territories, demonstrating that the appetite for diversity and excellence in hospitality shows no sign of waning,” Drew declared.
