If you’re a huge sake fan, October is going to be a great month for you. You can either attend the coming Oishii Japan 2014 (especially if you’re in the trade, but it opens to public on 18 October), or you can attend Sake Festival Singapore 2014.

The public event is organized by Orihara Pte Ltd – a branch of Tokyo-based Orihara Company Limited Japan – which is the holding company that runs a sake bar called Orihara Shoten at Robertson Walk next to yakitori restaurant Shirokane Toritama it also owns.

Sake Festival Singapore 2014 will see brews from around 30 sake breweries (see below) from all across Japan, as well as many exclusive seasonal autumn sakes (aki-agari and hiya-oroshi) on offer. while we can get sake all year-round, traditionally autumn – i.e. now – is the prime time for drinking sake, when fresh shiboritate brewed during cold winter months and pressed in spring has sufficient time to age appropriately. Brewery representatives will also be on hand to expound on the wonders of their products.
