Barbary Coast transforms its downstairs venue Deadfall for “Christmas on Canal”, a seasonal pop-up of festive drinks and eats this month of December.

Dual-concept cocktail bar Barbary Coast –  which houses rough-and-tumble Deadfall on its ground floor, and the opulent yet cosy Ballroom on the upper one – will be celebrating this festive season in a big way. It is hosting “Christmas at Canal”, a limited time Christmas pop-up completely transforming Deadfall into a faux winter wonderland that will rouse the Christmas spirit in you.

“Christmas on Canal” at Deadfall sees an entire seasonal menu replete with festive drink and food offerings to celebrate the season. Its selection of holiday cocktails include the Drunk Uncle Mulled Wine, a heart- and soul-warming hot brew made with red wine with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, triple sec, pear, citrus and spices, as well as the Nutcracker Nog Fog, a punchy yet light spiced egg nog laced with cognac that’s as comforting as it is tasty.

Less festive options are available. Ho Ho Holy Sh!t It’s Christmas is a proper Old Fashioned that offers a hat tip to the season with its use of maple and burnt pecan bitters. Mrs. Claus’ Secret on the other hand is a Manhattan that employs Branca Menthe and chocolate mole for that merry touch.

Deadfall Christmas on Canal Grinch's Gratin Dip

As for grub you’ll get to line your tummy with festive eats such as Argentinian Christmas Carpaccio, which features thinly sliced spice-marinated pork, red cabbage slaw and smoked gruyere. Then there’s the very moreish Grinch’s Gratin Dip, a twist on its ever popular spinach & artichoke dip that uses brussels sprouts instead, along with a mix of four cheeses, applewood bacon and chestnuts.

Make sure you order the Christmas Dinner-Plate special of Santa’s Helper. This is a single-serve Beef Wellington that comes complete with mushroom forestiére, sauce chasseur and celeriac puree; if you’re particularly hungry, the Yuletide Christmas Salad of mesclun, maple, charred squash, feta and candied walnuts make a perfect accompaniment to the Beef Wellington.

Dessert is simple, but no less festive or fun. The Fruit Mince Pies are particularly delicious with its fruit-studded Port gélee, and works particularly well with the spiced Strawberry Daiquiri twist that is Blushing Blitzen. And those Gingerbread Cookies are asking to be washed down with the Hallelujah Hot Chocolate, which you can opt to lace with whisky, rum, bourbon or tequila.

“Christmas on Canal” at Deadfall in Barbary Coast runs from now till 27 December 2020.
