To celebrate World Daiquiri Day, Origin Bar will be presenting “World’s Best Daiquiris”, featuring four daiquiris from the best bars around the world for the month of July.
It’s amazing how a daiquiri, made from just three simple ingredients – white rum, lime juice, and sugar – can taste. First invented at the end of the 19th century in Cuba by a mining engineer named Jennings Cox, this favourite cocktail of intrepid writer and traveler Ernest Hemingway is now considered one of the basic cocktails every bartender needs to have at their disposal. It’s also no surprise that this classic tipple has its own day – World Daiquiri Day, which falls on 19 July every year.
To celebrate this coming World Daiquiri Day, Origin Bar at Shangri-La Singapore – which possesses one of the largest collections of rums in this part of the world – is hosting “World’s Best Daiquiris”, where they will be collaborating with four bars from around the world listed on World’s 50 Best Bars 2020 and presenting their signature daiquiri cocktails.
The four participating bars are:
- COA, Hong Kong (#8 on World’s 50 Best Bars 2020)
- HIMKOK, Oslo (#30 on World’s 50 Best Bars 2020)
- Maybe Sammy, Sydney (#11 on World’s 50 Best Bars 2020)
- The Bamboo Bar, Bangkok (#35 on World’s 50 Best Bars 2020)
Also interesting for cocktail drinkers is that the World Daiquiri Day drinks from these bars are an exploration of different rums. Maybe Sammy’s version uses the classic Bacardi Carta Blanca (now made in Bermuda), but the daiquiri from HMKOK uses Havana Club from Cuba, while The Bamboo Bar’s version employs Matusalem Platino from the Dominican Republic. Plantation 3 Stars used in COA’s daiquiri is a fun blend of rums from Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad.
Each daiquiri is priced at $20++, but for the best round-the-world daiquiri experience guests can opt to enjoy four daiquiris for just $60++. “World Best Daiquiris” will run at Origin Bar for the month of July 2021.
So while there’s no chance we can get to travel to visit these four bars any time soon, we still can get a taste of their signature daiquiris for World Daiquiri Day.
