The Changi Lounge Craft Beer Festival is a unique weekend pop-up beer experience from 17 September to 9 October 2021 showcasing four homegrown breweries.

The Singapore craft beer scene has grown considerably in the past decade, but what has been most encouraging to see has been how the local brewing scene has also steadily gained momentum. From more established players such as Brewlander to younger upstarts such as Alive Brewing Co and Civilization Brewing Co, we’ve seen a good number of local breweries emerge and thrive in Singapore’s brewing scene.

The Singapore craft beer scene has also seen many more pop-ups and tap takeovers take place despite the various phases and restrictions due to the pandemic. Beer drinkers are spoilt for choice when it comes to brands such as Mikkeller Singapore ‘popping’ up at a hawker stall in Chinatown to events like the recent ‘A Celebration of Craft’ at 36 Club Street that featured over 19 beers on tap.

One of the latest craft beer pop-ups? Changi Lounge at Jewel Changi Airport will be hosting beers from not just one, but four local craft breweries for a limited period. The comfortable lounge – open to those looking for a spot of rest or a temporary tranquil place to work – will see a rotating tap takeover by homegrown brands RedDot Brewhouse, Brewerkz, Brewlander and Lion Brewery Co as part of its Changi Lounge Craft Beer Festival that takes place on the weekends of 17 September to 9 October.

Changi Lounge Craft Beer Festival
The Changi Lounge Craft Beer Festival will host beers from local breweries Lion Brewery Co, RedDot Brewhouse, Brewerkz, and Brewlander.

Each brewery’s takeover will be on Friday and Saturday based on the following schedule:

Each takeover will see six beers from each brewery showcased. You can expect, for example, the signature Monster Green Lager and refreshing Yuzu Craze Pilsner from RedDot Brewhouse on 17 and 18 September, Brewerkz’s ever-popular Golden Ale and upcoming seasonal Oktoberfest on 24 and 25 September, while Brewlander has its favourite Love Wild IPA and tangy Mango Salad Gose among its beers on 1 and 2 October. Then there’s Lion Brewery with Straits Pale Ale and their new malty Leon de Oro during its weekend.

A number of them will also bring a surprise brew or two to spice things up. Brewerkz will be looking at launching a new beer for visitors to taste at the festival, ahead of introduction at their outlets. There will also be craft beer appreciation segments led by Singapore’s first certified female brewmaster Crytalla Huang from RedDot Brewhouse and Mitch Gribov, the head brewmaster of Brewerkz. They will share about the inspiration and stories behind their craft beer creations and labels as well as the food pairings for various brews during their respective sessions.

New to craft-beer drinkers can learn about the differences between lager, ale, IPA and porter, key ingredients that go into the barrel, and get tips on how to appreciate each brew.

Prices start at SGD 38++ per person. This comes with 6 beer tasters (160ml) each that includes 2 draft beers on tap, as well as access to the craft beer appreciation sharing session by a brewery expert. Groups of five will enjoy a complimentary nachos and cheese dish. Reservations for the various takeovers during the Changi Lounge Craft Beer Festival can be done here.
