Austrian National Tourist Office and Austrian Embassy Singapore kicks off the Lion City’s first-ever Austrian Gourmet Week at Andaz Singapore.

What comes to mind when you think Austrian cuisine? If you’re drawing a blank, chances are you’re not alone. Singaporeans aren’t exactly intimately familiar with that landlocked Central European country.

But that may be set to change if the Austrian National Tourist Office and Austrian Embassy Singapore have their way. Especially when it comes to Austrian cuisine. They will be partnering Andaz Singapore to host the first-ever Austrian Gourmet Week here in Singapore – from 29 October to 2 November 2022, Andaz Singapore’s flagship steakhouse restaurant 665°F will host an exclusive four-hands dinner experience by guest chefs Armin Leitgeb and Josef Mühlmann.

Not familiar with these chefs?

Tyrol native and consulting chef Armin Leitgeb has decades of top notch kitchen experience, having spent time in award-winning establishments such as Montpellier’s 3-Michelin starred Jardin des Sens, 3-starred Auberge de L’ll in Alsace, as well as 3-starred French Laundry in Yountville, California right smack in wine country. But local gastrophiles will know Chef Armin best for his time in Singapore as head chef of Les Amis from 2008 to 2012.

Then there’s Chef Josef Mühlmann, also from Tyrol in Austria. Chef Josef’s restaurant Gannerhof was recently awarded in the Gault&Milau 2022 guide with 17 points – a first of its kind in the Tyrol region, in recognition of the excellent quality of its Alpine-focused cuisine of his family-owned restaurant.

Chef Armin Leitgeb (L) and Chef Josef Mühlmann are both from Austria’s eastern state of Tyrol.

Austrian Gourmet Week aims to introduce Austria’s cuisine, vineyards and agriculture to Singapore as part of ReFocus Austria, a series of events to encourage the country’s exports. As such, chefs Armin and Josef will be presenting a six-course menu that highlights Alpine cuisine as a nod to their roots.

Their Alpine-inflected collaboration menu will kick off with Austrian bites such as Backhend’l (fried chicken) with cucumber salad and pumpkin seed oil; Speck with apricot mustard; and Marinated Forest Mushrooms with warm potato espuma and herbs. This is followed by Chef Armin’s iconic Lightly Smoked Eel with crispy pork crouton, mustard and horseradish. Then there’s Tyrolean-style Rye Ravioli, finished with white cheese, brown butter and chives, as well as the Farmers Bread Wrapped Crispy Egg. Another main course highlight is the meltingly tender and flavourful Braised Lamb Leg. The menu will concludes with Oven-Baked Apple, served with salty caramel and cranberry ice cream.

For this exclusive Austrian Gourmet Week dining experience, guests have to option to pair their meal with carefully curated wines from Austrian wineries such as Pittnauer and family-owned Tement. The former produces certified biodynamic and organic wines while the latter produces handcrafted wines attributed to its bio-organic vineyards.

“The Austrian Gourmet Week will give Singaporeans an excellent opportunity to discover Austria’s fantastic culinary traditions. This ReFocus Austria event is an invitation to visit Austria and to enjoy all it has to offer: great food, amazing landscapes and an abundance of art and culture,: said Peter Guschelbauer, Austrian Ambassador to Singapore.

The six-course Austrian Gourmet Week dinner menu at 665°F is priced at S$160++ per person and is available from 29 October to 2 November 2022. A wine pairing option is available at an additional S$115++ per guest. For restaurant reservations, please visit Andaz Singapore’s dining page or call +65 6408 1288.
