Campari Group officially brings in the award-winning premium X.O. and V.S.O.P cognacs of Bisquit & Dubouché to Singapore.

Cognac lovers, take note. There’s a new cognac in town – Campari Group recently debuted Bisquit & Dubouché in Singapore, bringing in the legendary maison’s award-winning V.S.O.P and X.O. expressions here.

Of course, it’s not new new. It’s really only new to Singapore. After all the maison comes with over 200 years of heritage, originally founded by Alexandre Bisquit in 1819 as Bisquit Cognac. Campari renamed it Bisquit & Dubouché last year, after acquiring the brand from South Africa’s Distell Group in 2017.

The new name recognises Adrien Dubouché, an artist who crossed paths with Alexandre Bisquit and who later married the latter’s daughter. Dubouché had worked alongside Bisquit to propel Bisquit Cognac into popularity, and by the end of the 19th century it even became the third most exported cognac label.

Bisquit & Dubouché Cognac - brand ambassador

Cognac enthusiasts may know that Bisquit Cognac, now Bisquit & Dubouché, is made with grapes harvested from the four main crus – Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fin Bois, and Bon Bois. Following four to eight days of natural fermentation, the liquid then undergoes double distillation in copper pot stills during the months of November to March to maximise extraction of its hallmark eau de vie. Every batch is then aged in handmade oak casks, and at the right time is selected to be blended into V.S., V.S.O.P, and X.O according to the maison’s signature style.

With a new name comes a progressive new bottle design as well. Its refreshed decanter challenges the norms for packaging cognac by moving away from the typical bottle or flask shape. Instead its form is more of a solid square – with slight gentle contours – with silver and black accents. And in place of the usual sticker labels, right in the centre of the bottle is an embossing of the maison’s redesigned griffin logo.

The Bisquit & Dubouché V.S.O.P. in particular comes highly lauded. It picked up a Gold “Outstanding” medal at the 2018 International Wines & Spirits Challenge, and in 2021 was awarded Double Gold Medal for “Cognac V.S.O.P. of the Year” category at the New York International Spirits Competition and San Francisco World Spirits Competition, as well as a Gold Medal at the Beverage Tasting Awards with a top scoring of 92 points.

“As we announce Bisquit & Dubouché’s introduction to new markets in the beginning of its third century, our intent was to disrupt traditional perceptions of cognac in modern consumers,” said Vincent Chappe, Ambassadeur Global de la Maison of Bisquit & Dubouché.

“With foundations paved by fearless founders, this reimagination tells a story of rebellion over conformity to inspire newfound appreciation of cognac and in a way, challenge audiences to venture forth with audacity, patience and hopefully, a glass of cognac in hand,” Chappe added.

The Bisquit & Dubouché V.S.O.P. and X.O. are priced at S$129 and S$365 respectively and are available at selected retailers, with the X.O. sold in limited quantities. Retailers and collectors are also able to purchase bottles directly from Campari Group’s RARE Division by contacting rare.asia@campari.com via the official Campari Group store on Lazada and Shopee.

Recognised internationally as the epitome of perfection with its slew of awards, the V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale) is marked by its smoothness and mellowness that welcomes drinkers to enjoy the liquid in ways pure or mixed. Slowly matured in French oak barrels for a minimum of four years using ratios of all four main crus, the process yields a seductive warm amber that exudes inviting whiffs of apricot, honey, sweet spices and a closing nuance of rose. While versatile in character, its supple notes of honeysuckle, citrus and mango are best experienced when savoured neat or on ice.
