American single malt whiskey brand Westward Whiskey makes its return to Singapore complete with a new range and an updated look.

We took our first look (and sip) of Westward Whiskey in 2019. The American single malt whiskey had made its debut back then, part of the brand’s ambitious first forays into Asia. But the advent of the global coronavirus pandemic would mean that any grand plans had to be shelved, at least for the moment.

Now it’s back with a vengeance.

Not familiar with Westward or American single malt whiskey? American single malt whiskey differs from most other American whiskeys (such as bourbon) in that its mash bill is entirely malted barley. For Portland, Oregon-based Westward, this means leaning into the vast fertile American Northwest for quality American barley as well as the region’s top-notch beer brewing roots to make some of the most unique whiskey on the American western seaboard.

And it has spent those pandemic years well.

Westward Whiskey’s return to Singapore brings back a core whiskey range that’s been refreshed and, if we dare say, improved too, no less. Its original 2019 launch had unveiled three expressions – the Original, Oregon Stout Cask, and the American Two Malts. The Original remains, but the last has been officially dropped from the range. The Oregon Stout Cask has been rebranded simply as the Stout Cask.

Newly introduced to the Singapore market? The Cask Strength, and the Pinot Noir Cask. The former is the Original on steroids, clocking in at an uncut 62.5% ABV. The Pinot Noir Cask, on the other hand, taps on Oregon’s Willamette Valley winemaking region – world renowned for its Pinot Noir – for wine casks. These casks impart an intriguingly vinous yet fruity freshness, bringing a totally different yet welcome expression to the table.

All of the whiskeys in the range are award-winning. Each of them have picked up gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in different years between 2019 to 2021. They also come with a different look; the brand has unveiled a stunning new custom bottle design and logo celebrating the whiskey’s provenance and link to the American Northwest, such as the bottle’s shoulders inspired by the craggy peaks of the Cascade Mountains that run through much of the American Northwest.

“We are thrilled to introduce our new whiskeys and elevated visual identity to discerning whiskey drinkers in Singapore. Our new custom bottle and design expresses the uncompromising spirit of the American Northwest and represents Westward’s meticulous devotion to our process, culture, climate and ingredients,” shared Thomas Mooney, CEO and Founder of Westward Whiskey.

The new and refreshed Westward Whiskey range is available from premium spirits retailer and distributor La Maison du Whisky, at the recommended retail prices of:

Westward Whiskey Original (45% ABV, 700ml) – S$145
Westward Whiskey Stout Cask (46% ABV, 700ml) – S$168
Westward Whiskey Pinot Noir Cask (45% ABV, 700ml) – S$168
Westward Whiskey Cask Strength (62.5% ABV, 700ml) – S$200
