Tourism Western Australia launches a ‘Drive The Dream Road Trip’ campaign to entice Singaporeans to hit the open road in Western Australia’s vast country.

There are many reasons to visit Western Australia – we count its beautiful Margaret River, Swan Valley and Great Southern wine regions among them – but here’s one that Tourism Western Australia believe most Singaporeans don’t quite think about: going on a road trip.

That’s right, driving on its wide open roads to explore the diversity that Western Australia has to offer. For that reason, the agency has kicked off ‘Drive The Dream Road Trip’ to inspire Singapore residents to hit the open road and discover the freedom and fun of a road trip in Australia’s largest state.

Having driven a number of times from Perth to Margaret River to visit some fabulous wine country, we can definitely say that a road trip in Western Australia offers some spectacular experiences. From its spectacular coastline and jaw-dropping natural wonders to ancient Aboriginal sites and amazing wineries and restaurants, Western Australia does have something for everyone.

To promote ‘Drive The Dream Road Trip’, Tourism Western Australia has signed up Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo to front the campaign. The Perth-born Italian Australian – currently racing for Scuderia AlphaTauri – features in an eight-minute short film with his best mate on a 1200km road trip adventure along the iconic Coral Coast Highway from Perth (Boorloo) to Exmouth. Along the way they swam with gentle whale sharks in World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park, caught fresh fish in Francois Peron National Park, went quad biking in Kalbarri, and stargazed at Bullara Station in Purnurrba.

Daniel Ricciardo says Western Australia has everything you could want in a road trip. “The landscape alone puts a smile on my face,” shares Ricciardo. “You have this crazy vast, open outback that’s dry and a little rough, but then a hundred metres later you come across these pristine beaches that are unlike anything else. You’ve then got towering forests and world-class wineries in the south of the state, everything you see just seems unique and untouched, I love it.”

Aside from the Coral Coast Highway, Tourism Western Australia recommends road trips along the Gibb River Road (which takes you past spectacular gorges, thundering waterfalls, secluded swimming holes, and ancient rock art), the South West Wine & Nature Drive that takes you through the Margaret River wine region that also feature towering forests and ancient caves, and the coastal South West Edge that blends nature, wildlife, coastlines, and culture.

“Singapore is a key source market for road trip vacations because it’s something locals can’t do at home,” explains Ava Ang, Country Manager for Tourism Western Australia (Singapore/Malaysia). “Singaporeans are increasingly craving the opportunity to get off the beaten track and reconnect with nature. Just over four hours away and on the same time zone, Western Australia is the perfect backdrop for an incredible road trip that will allow you to connect with yourself, your loved ones and with the destination.”
