Local importer Commodities Global Pte Ltd, which operates under the trade name Ale N Cider, has confirmed that it will be bringing a range of beers from Suffolk, England-based St Peter’s Brewery.

Started by partners Asher Cheong, KS Wong and Bruce Stimpson, Ale N Cider is set to import and distribute beers from the independent St Peter’s Brewery located at St. Peter South Elmham, near Bungay in Suffolk.

Some of St Peter’s beers – such as that of the Ruby Red Ale – come in a distinctive oval-shaped 500ml bottle; that signatory bottle shape is based on an 18th-century gin bottle from Gibbstown, by the Delaware River near Philadelphia. They also use regular round bottles.

While the brewery makes a wide range of traditional British real ales – St Peter’s produces cask ales such as English bitters and milds, although they are best known for their cold filtered bottled beers – as well as more unusual beers with the addition of adjuncts such as fruit and honey depending on the season, Ale N Cider will first bring in three variants. It will be offering the Ruby Red Ale, Old Style Porter and Cream Stout from its first shipment to test the market, and will be bringing in additional variants in the near future (it’s confirmed that St Peter’s Golden Ale and Best Bitter will also be coming to Singapore in future shipments). This sees Ale N Cider extends its exclusively British portfolio for the first time since it began business in April last year, which currently carries beers from Oakham Ales and Shepherd Neame, as well as ciders from Sheppy’s.

St Peter’s Brewery was built in 1996 and housed in an attractive range of traditional former agricultural buildings adjacent to St. Peter’s Hall. That location was ideal due to the area’s excellent water quality and easy access to locally malted barley and Kentish hops.

All three St Peter’s beers in Ale N Cider’s first shipment come highly lauded. The Ruby Red Ale won a silver medal at both the 2010 International Beer Challenge and SIBA National Beer Competition 2010, as well as a bronze medal winner at the SIBA Beer Competition 2009; the Old Style Porter is a bronze award winner at both CAMRA Winter Beer Festival 2007 and CAMRA Champion Beer of Suffolk 2006, while the Cream Stout is a gold medal winner at the International Beer Competition, World’s 50 Best Beers 2006, Silver Medal Winner at the International Beer Challenge 2009 and Australian International Beer Awards in 2010.

St Peter’s Ruby Red Ale, Old Style Porter and Cream Stout is currently available from Ale N Cider.
