Coyote Ugly Saloon Singapore brings the legendary Coyote Ugly Saloon bar chain to town, complete with its famous live entertainment and a sprawling drinks list.
If you’ve watched the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly, you’re already aware of Coyote Ugly Saloon which served as a setting for the film. If not, you should know that Coyote Ugly Saloon is a chain of bars that started in New York by Liliana Lovell and famous for its sassy female bartenders and live entertainment. Coyote Ugly Saloon Singapore officially opened in January this year – appropriately located in Singapore’s Clarke Quay entertainment and nightlife district – is one of Coyote Ugly Saloon’s latest international openings, bringing the chain’s total number of outlets to around 28 worldwide.
Coyote Ugly Saloon Singapore brings back a form of live entertainment that’s been somewhat missing in our scene in this day of political correctness, where women (here they call them Coyotes) gyrate on a stage with sizzling dance moves while patrons drink and ogle on. There’s even a travelling troupe of Coyotes that go around the world, bringing their hot moves to each of the chain’s outlets around the world.
Some may call this concept dated; its first outlet did start in 1993 after all. To Coyote Ugly, this is seen as a form of women’s liberalism and feminism. In fact the bar puts women up front and centre here – there’s Thirsty Tuesday, where it’s one-for-one for ladies only. Or Wednesday Ladies Night, where women can dance on the bar for free drinks, or otherwise enjoy free-flow wines, Cava, and gin and tonics for just $20++. Then there’s Saturday, where women – again – get free shots if they dance on the bar.
It’s good to be at Coyote Ugly Saloon Singapore if you’re a woman and willing to dance for free shots, because prices are somewhat on the high side here. For example a bottle of Glenfiddich 18 Years Old is $380++, and even a bottle of Monkey Shoulder sets you back $260++. Thankfully the drinks menu here is extensive and you can find some affordable tipples; we’d really rather break open a bottle of white or red wine, which runs from $78++ to $88++ a bottle. Classic cocktails ($18-20++) and the signature Coyote cocktails ($22-24++) are another option.
And if you’re a guy, you should be thankful there’s happy hour where there are $10 drink deals that start from 5pm every day until 9pm.
In a departure from other Coyote Ugly Saloon outlets, Coyote Ugly Saloon Singapore actually has a full-service kitchen – thanks to Singapore’s alcohol licensing rules – that serves up eats. There are signature bar bites like Nashville-style Chicken Wings ($12++ for 6 pieces to $50++ for 36), or BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos ($18++).
We’d actually highly recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken (16++ to 50++); it almost pains us to admit it’s some of the best Nashville-style fried chicken we’ve had in town. Its accompanying volcano sauce has a spice kick that will pleasure and pain at the same time.
As for entertainment, there are pool tables for those who want to pocket some balls over buckets of beer, and there’s even a robot bucking bronco for the adventurous.
We’d have to admit Coyote Ugly Saloon Singapore isn’t quite the usual place we’d venture into on a regular basis. But if its form of entertainment allows some women to let their hair down and be themselves, who are we to deny them their fun?
