Origin Grill at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore unveils its Origin Milk Punch Lunch, a special lunch set menu combining various signature dishes paired with milk punch cocktails.
The power lunch describes a working lunch that doubles up as an official meeting, such as when powerful executives or politicians discuss something important over a midday meal. But there are power lunches, and then there’s a very new boozy power lunch deal that Shangri-La Hotel Singapore’s Origin Grill just unveiled.
The Origin Milk Punch Lunch is a curated lunch set featuring various appetiser, mains, and dessert courses from which you build your own meal, and then have the option to pair them with some specially-created milk punch cocktails.
Appetisers include the likes of the Tangerine Cured Salmon, Cappellini Pasta, or Chicken Broth, to begin your meal. For mains you have the option of Pink Snapper, Confit Duck Leg, or the Westholme Wagyu Petite Tender MS 5/6. For an addendum, you can also opt for the BBQ Roasted Pork Bell Sliders or Roasted Tiger Prawns.
Dessert this season is Prosperity Pineapple, a coconut-based dacquoise with pineapple.
But what’s truly outstanding for the Origin Milk Punch Lunch are the milk punches it offers. Now the Milk Punch is a milk-based classic cocktail built with either brandy or bourbon. There’s also a clarified version, which sees alcohol or acid added to curdle the milk, and the solids then strained off to create a clear liquid.
Here the Origin bar team – which runs an impressive cocktail program and rum collection – has created four clarified milk punches: Altos Plata tequila-based Grass comes is a herbaceous and tangy tipple, while Minerals – concocted with Jameson Irish whiskey – has a savoury and smoky note from the addition of sea salt and peat. Tannins, made with Martell VSOP, is fruity and floral. Then there’s Nuts, with nutty flavours from almond, hazelnut and coconut, which has a Havana Club 7 Anos rum base.
What’s particularly fun about these milk punches is how they look and taste like wines; Grass, for example, tasted like a off-dry Riesling, while Tannins is a light fruity red in the vein of a Beaujolais, or a fresh modern Pinot Noir.
You’ll need a power nap after this power lunch, though.
The Origin Milk Punch Lunch costs S$34++ for 3 courses (1 appetiser, 1 main course, 1 dessert), $40++ for 3 courses (2 appetisers, 1 main), or S$44++ for 4 courses (2 appetisers, 1 main, and 1 dessert), not including the addendum. The milk punch pairings come as an additional option of S$28++. This special power lunch is available daily from 12pm to 2.30pm.
