Glenfiddich unveils its Time Re:Imagined collection in Singapore, a set of three rare luxury whiskies that explores the passage of time at the 30-, 40-, and 50-year mark.

There are some new Glenfiddich whiskies in town, but alas you’re not going to see them on regular bottle shop shelves near you. The Glenfiddich Time Re:Imagined collection is a set of three whiskies far at the other end of the age statement spectrum and sit firmly in the luxury segment. Comprising the Glenfiddich 30 Year Old, Glenfiddich 40 Year Old, and Glenfiddich 50 Year Old whiskies, they are deemed to mark the height of the Speyside distillery’s achievements in whisky making since it was first founded in 1887.

Representing Glenfiddich’s distillery style, these three ultra-premium expressions explore the mark of time on whisky. A form of whisky time travel, if you will.

It’s not like Glenfiddich never had a 30-, 40-, or 50-year old whisky in their range. They have, since the 2000s. But it looks like Glenfiddich has finally deemed it time to weave them together and present these vintages as a special collection of their own.

Complete with fancy bottles and packaging.

Glenfiddich Time:Reimagined collection with outer packaging

There’s the Glenfiddich 30 Year Old, which depicts the moment when Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s Malt Master, “suspends time” by bottling it at a precise moment. Its outer packaging looks like Elven architecture, evokes the movement of time through flowing ribbon-like forms wrapping the regal decanter within.

Then there’s the Glenfiddich 40 Year Old. What’s unique about this expression is the use of what the distillery calls ‘remnant vatting’, a process it pioneered – inspired by the solera system used in making sherries – where remnants of the previous batch are carried over each time, and married with the casks selected for each subsequent release. It’s been using this blending technique since the late 90s for the Solera Reserve, what we now know as the Glenfiddich 15 Year Old in its core range. Here the 40 Year Old comes in a beautiful faceted decanter in an even more stunning outer marble-like jesmonite housing that will sit prettily on any mantlepiece or display case.

The highlight of the collection, of course, is the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old. What’s inside is 50 year old spirit that comes from just three American Oak refill casks. These three casks – matured in the same warehouse – were then married together and finished in an American oak refill cask for a further two years. And its casing? Like the 40 Year Old it also comes in a beautiful outer casing, but this one here is even more special. Manuel Jiménez García, a computational architect, decrypted meteorological data from the past fifty years into an artistic representation that emblazons the casing’s design. Only 220 decanters of this precious and rare 50YO expression is available worldwide.

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old

“The Time Re:Imagined series crowns the Glenfiddich range with three exceptional liquids that celebrate the very heights of our distillery. Decades in the making, the collection pays tribute to the unpredictable nature of time as each expression captures a fleeting moment in time which bridges the past with the present, bottled in a distinctive decanter that beautifully tell the stories of these single malts,” says Will Peacock, Head of Luxury at William Grant & Sons.

“In whisky production, we often talk about the role of Malt Masters and it is our responsibility to find the delicate balance between the taste of the whisky and the intensity of the oak cask. But we don’t always acknowledge how each cask, each bottle, is absolutely unique because of the time it has spent maturing,” shared Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich Malt Master. “Both nature and time play huge roles in making whisky taste like it does and Glenfiddich’s Time Re:Imagined collection pays homage to this process and the exquisite liquid it helps to create.”
