The Lion City’s cocktail scene continues to shine as 13 Singapore bars are named to the top 100 of the Top 500 Bars 2022 list, with Jigger & Pony leading the pack at No.3.

Top 500 Bars earlier this week released its list of the top 500 bars around the world. This year Barcelona’s speakeasy bar Paradiso – which was also named the best bar in this year’s World’s 50 Best Bars –  finally dethroned London’s Connaught Bar to head the table.

Top 500 Bars 2022 has grown in scope. This year the awards covered 127 different cities and 56 different countries, compared to 113 cities and 53 countries in 2021. New cities considered for the list included Latvia’s capital city of Riga, India’s Bengaluru and San Vincenzo in Tuscany, Italy.

Singapore’s bars continue to do extremely well at this awards. This year there are 13 Singapore-based cocktail bars in the top 100 this year, compared to 12 last year.

The Singapore bars that entered into the top 100 of the Top 500 Bars 2022 list are:

  • Jigger & Pony (No.3)
  • ATLAS (No.6)
  • Manhattan (No.14)
  • Native (No.26)
  • 28 HongKong Street (No.42)
  • MO BAR (No.43)
  • Analogue (No.53)
  • Tippling Club (No.65)
  • The Elephant Room (No.70)
  • No Sleep Club (No.74)
  • Live Twice (No.91)

Singapore sees two new entrants into the top 100 of Top 500 Bars this year with Analogue (No.53) and Smoke & Mirrors (No.96), while Barbary Coast drops out of the top 100. Singapore is considered to be one of leading countries in Top 500 Bars along with the UK, while Italy comes in at third in the full rankings.

“We are honoured that our teams’ hard work, ownership of the craft, and dedication to convivial hospitality have been recognised,” said Guoyi Gan, co-founder of Jigger & Pony.

“We are also so proud to be a part of Singapore’s bar community, with 11 locals bars in the top 100 and another 16 on the extended list of Top 500 Bars. As travel and nightlife resumes, we hope more local and international guests would be able to enjoying the diverse experiences our bar community has to offer,” added Gan, who is also founding president of the Singapore Cocktail Bar Association.

“We are truly honoured to be listed at No.97 on the Top 500 bars listing. We couldn’t have imagined to be here when we are considering to be less than a year in operation as Papa Doble,” said Andrew Yap, owner of Papa Doble. “This would not have happened if it has not been with the support and trust of our guests, the amazing team we have and everyone in the industry,” Yap added.

As previously mentioned, Top 500 Bars is a different kind of awards competition. Rather than relying on judging panels or public votes, Top 500 Bars rely wholly on big data. To create this ranking, it aggregates and feeds thousands of data about cocktail bars off the Internet – from hundreds of sources, in over 20 languages – into its algorithm, and this way taps the opinion of experts, journalists and influencers, as well as online rankings, social media platforms and search engines to create this list.

In that sense, this list is not about which bars make the best cocktails. It’s really about bars that people most talk about. Still, Top 500 Bars is not a bad way to help decide how to spend an evening the next time you drop into a new city.
