The winners of the Wine Pinnacle Awards 2022 across 18 categories were officially revealed in a glitzy ceremony at Resorts World Sentosa last week.

Wine Pinnacle Awards is back after its inaugural launch in 2019. Presented by Resorts World Sentosa, Wine Pinnacle Awards 2022 celebrated the winners of 18 different wine-related categories in an award format conducted on a nomination basis without the need for submissions of wines or entry fees.

Instead the award winners have been nominated and chosen by a panel of over 60 wine professionals around the world, overseen by a sterling technical committee consisting of some of the biggest names in the wine world. As was with the 2019 edition, the technical committee for this year’s Wine Pinnacle Awards (pictured below) comprised of Hong Kong-based Jeannie Cho Lee MW, Kenichi Ohashi MW from Tokyo, United States’ Doug Frost MW, MS, London-based wine writer Oz Clarke, and award-winning Swedish sommelier Andreas Larsson.

Pandemic Hero (Personality)

    • Barbara Banke, Chairman and Proprietor of Jackson Family Wines

2019 featured a total of 27 different award categories, pared down to just 18 awards this year. Gone are some categories that celebrate more unique releases from the New World and various wine personalities, such as ‘Best Recent Release Non-Champagne Sparkling Wine’, ‘Black Swan Wine of the Year’, ‘Best Chinese Red’, as well as ‘Best Young Winemaker of the Year’ and ‘Unsung Hero’.

The ‘Grand Jury Award’ has also been replaced with ‘Pandemic Hero’, won by Barbara Banke of Jackson Family Wines. “We are cognizant of the difficulties faced by many people in the wine industry over the past few years. Barbara Banke and Jackson Family Wines are the epitome of a pandemic hero with their outstanding contributions to a society significantly affected by the pandemic,” said Jeannie Cho Lee MW, head of the Wine Pinnacle Awards 2022 technical committee.

Wine Pinnacle Awards 2022 - Wine Industry Symposium

The results of Wine Pinnacle Awards 2022 was announced at a glitzy gala dinner on 1 November 2022 at the Resorts World Ballroom within Resorts World Convention Centre at RWS in Singapore. It comes on the back of a five-day programme that included exclusive wine dinners, industry masterclasses, and a two-day symposium that saw the participation over nearly 500 of the leading figures and luminaries in the wine world such as distinguished winemakers, top wine professionals, and wine enthusiasts alike.

“The diversity on display – both in terms of attendees and the geographical origin of the nominees – beautifully demonstrates the dedication of Wine Pinnacle Awards to celebrating diversity, inclusivity, and excellence,” said Tan Hee Teck, CEO of Resorts World Sentosa. “Leading a business, let alone a vintage, to triumph can be an uphill battle, and, as such, we are eager to shine the spotlight on the commitment, ability, and sheer hard work of our deserving nominees and winners.”
