Tasting Australia returns to Adelaide this year, offering a slate of food- and drinks-related festivities running across the city and its environs from 3 to 12 May 2024.
One of Australia’s longest running eating and drinking festivals, Tasting Australia, will again descend on Adelaide in South Australia when it returns for its 2024 edition. Presented by RAA Travel, this gastronomy fest is again set to offer, as its organisers put it, a programme combining some of the “most unique eating and drinking experiences that only South Australia can offer”.
Indeed, Tasting Australia 2024 offers something for everyone, from the most dedicated gastrophile and wine enthusiast to art and nature lovers, and even culture vultures. The flagship event is the Tasting Australia Town Square, the festival hub comprising a myriad of eating and drinking experiences in a communal, convivial environment. Here you can learn, for example, how to make tacos and South Australian pasties (the latter led by Australian celebrity chef Mark Best, no less), or sit in at various masterclasses where you learn about the newest craft beers or terroir-led wines.
For art lovers, the dining galleries will be bursting with fun. The spaces are part restaurant and part art showcase, so you’ll be able to enjoy some of the most remarkable menus – crafted from South Australia produce, of course – while you soak in works by various South Australian artists.
And if you love your booze? Some of Adelaide’s most beloved hospitality venues will be hosting tasting table sessions, offering any kind of tipple from wines and handcrafted gins to farmhouse ales.
As with previous editions, some events take place outside of Adelaide. The more adventurous amongst us may want to venture out to Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley or even Kangaroo Island for some of these regional activities. For wine lovers a regional getaway to those regions – which are some of the best winemaking regions Australia has to offer – should be a given.
And for the ultimate Tasting Australia experience, trying hopping onto an overnight adventure to Limestone Coast to trawl caves and sinkholes even as you explore some of the best mod-Oz cuisine the region has to offer.
